If asked, you would swear you hadn't meant to actually fall asleep. All you'd wanted was to lay down with your boys in the Breaker Box after closing hours and rest with them while they fell asleep. To get to enjoy each other's company when there were no other obligations around to distract any of you. No hosting duties for Volt. No mixing drinks or repairs for Eddie. No other objects approaching you to ask for favors. You knew Eddie and Volt needed the break as much as you did. Just a quiet moment of peace and tranquility.
Well. As it turned out, maybe the moment had been a little too tranquil.
The last thing you remembered was laying down between Volt and Eddie in their bed. They were dressed down for the night, and you were wearing comfy clothes as well, having changed before showing up. Eddie was holding you from behind, an arm wrapped around your waist to keep you close, and nuzzling his face into the back of your neck. Volt was laying just as close, gazing down at you adoringly while he held your hand between your bodies.
While Eddie was pretty checked out, content to silently enjoy your company, you and Volt talked. Light conversation about insignificant things like how your days had been, who you'd helped around the house and who'd performed at the club that night.
But your responses had started coming slower and slower, your eyelids fighting to stay open. Between the two of them, you were wrapped up in so much warmth and safety that the pull of sleep must have become too much to resist.
The next thing you knew, you were blinking your eyes open blearily with the distinct impression that a lot of time had passed. The first thing you saw was Volt's softly glowing hair, illuminating his face. His eyes were closed now, so it really must have been a while.
With a quiet groan, you tried to stretch, but quickly discovered that Eddie was still holding you. At your movement, he let out a soft grunt of protest in his sleep and tightened his arms around you before settling again. Somehow, you must have shifted even further into his embrace during the night, because with the way he was holding you with both arms now, there was no possible way you were going anywhere anytime soon. Not that you had any problem with that. Turning your head, you pressed a smiling kiss to his stubbly jaw.
As you settled back in place facing Volt, a sudden thought struck you: how were the Dateviators holding up? The previous day, you'd charged them in the afternoon to allow for your evening plans, but this was the first time you'd ever worn them while sleeping. Moving carefully so you wouldn't wake either of your partners, you tapped the button on the side of the frames and the charge display popped up in the corner of your vision. Instantly, you slumped in relief. Still half the battery left. You had plenty of time to spare.
The battery icon blinked out and you focused your attention past your own glasses to finally realize that you were being watched. You weren't sure how you'd missed Volt's eyes glowing through the darkness before, but they were definitely aimed right at you, half-lidded and relaxed though they were.
Smiling, you gestured him closer. With an answering smile, Volt shifted his body until there was scarcely any part of you not touching. You blushed at the pleasant warmth he brought with him. "Mm...morning, Volt," you hummed contentedly, voice low to avoid disturbing Eddie's sleep. "Erm..." You thought twice about your greeting as you took in the lingering darkness in the room. "Is it morning?"
"Very early morning, but yes," Volt assured you. Unwilling (or unable) to wait any longer, he dropped a kiss to your waiting lips. It was exactly as tingly and electrifying as the first time. You sighed softly against his lips as he pulled back, and for a moment he paused like he was considering going right back in for more. He managed to control himself however, and instead gently touched the frames of your Dateviators. "Are we still coming through clearly for you?" As he spoke, he let his fingers trail down to trace your cheek.
"Yeah," you replied, leaning into his touch. A small, confused frown creased your brow as you let out a disbelieving laugh. "I have no idea how they stayed on all night, though."
"Ah. I...might have had something to do with that," Volt admitted, offering you a pleased smile that made the warmth in his glowing eyes even more apparent.
You tilted your head, a silent invitation for him to go on.
"Did you know that you shift around in your sleep, live wire?" Volt began in a teasing tone, "You certainly did last night, at least. Our dear Eddie helped impede some of your movement, of course, but a few times those glasses of yours were in danger of slipping off. I ensured they did not." His hand trailed over to brush through your hair tenderly. "So you would wake up to us, not to the loneliness of your hall closet."
Your heart did a complicated series of flips in your chest at the gesture. To think that he'd been so concerned for you..."Oh, Volt," you breathed, taking his hand and pulling it to your lips to kiss his palm, "That was so thoughtful of you." When you returned your eyes up to his, you couldn't help but frown, though. "But does that mean you didn't get any sleep?"
Despite the pink flush in his cheeks from your praise, Volt remained focused on the conversation at hand, his smile softening. He shook his head. "Don't fret, my sweet spark; I still rested. I don't need much. It was, and is, far more important to me that you wouldn't wake up confused and alone. Our time together is rare enough, so please allow me the pleasure of watching over both you and Eddie. It gives me such joy to have the two of you safely within my sight."
Even more warmth spread through your chest, and this time it had nothing to do with the physical proximity of the two men at your sides. Sleepy affection overtook your brain, which must have been why it was so easy to even begin to find a response to such sentiment. "Watching over us? Aww, Volt..." you cooed softly, cradling his face in your hand, "Who would ever need a guardian angel when we've got you?"
Volt went very still, his eyes wide as he stared at you in silence. You would have been worried that you'd offended him somehow if not for his blush spreading to overtake his whole face under your hand. Clearly scrambling for words to formulate a response, he swallowed hard and opened his mouth...but nothing came out.
He was speechless. For the first time that you'd ever seen, Volt was speechless! And you'd caused it!
In awe, you rubbed your thumb against his smooth, red face, feeling the heat for yourself. "Oh? You like that?" you wondered innocently, gazing directly into his eyes as you struck the final blow, "My angel?"
The flush spread to Volt's neck and ears as the word washed over him yet again. He bit his lip, trying to get a hold of himself, but it was clearly a struggle. A shaky smile appeared on his lips in the next moment. It was an obvious attempt to play off how affected he was, but the frenzied look in his eyes gave him away. "N-now what makes you think that, live wire?" he tried, though his voice was weak and breathless.
Before you had the chance to reply and call him out on such an obvious deflection, Eddie beat you to it. A low laugh rumbled in his chest, vibrating against your back. "Yeah, he definitely likes that." His voice was rough and husky with sleep, but you could still hear the shit-eating grin he must have had on his face without even looking at him yet.
Your smile widened mischievously as Eddie shifted up on his elbow behind you so he could get a good look at Volt's blush for himself. Reinforcements had arrived. Volt would be sure to crumble under the combined onslaught of such a united front as you and Eddie together.
"Eddie—" Volt started to protest, but cut off in a sharp gasp when you leaned in and started kissing his neck.
"I think you're right," you murmured against his skin, ignoring Volt's attempt to cut in, "Just look how pretty our angel blushes for us."
A strangled noise close to a whine came out of Volt somewhere just above your head.
Behind you, Eddie let out a soft hum. He pressed even closer to lean right over you and kiss Volt's stunned face. "Yeah," he agreed between kisses, "And he would know better than to try and hide how he feels about it from us, wouldn't he?"
A breathy laugh escaped from Volt. "H-how did this get turned around on me?" he stammered, "All I did was—"
This time his words were physically blocked by Eddie's mouth pressing against his. Volt groaned low in his throat, and the sound of it vibrated against your lips. You couldn't help it: you angled your head to peek up at them. The sight of your boys in such tender liplock with each other sent your heart fluttering wildly. With renewed vigor, you set your lips back to Volt's throat, now nipping lightly with your teeth. You were rewarded with a pleased hum. Then at last—
"Volt. Shut up and just let us love you," Eddie insisted as they caught their breath after parting.
With a huff, you pulled back from Volt's throat and gently shouldered Eddie's chest. "You don't have to shut up," you corrected his words pointedly. You watched Volt's bemused eyes flick between the two of you.
Falling back to his side of the bed, Eddie sighed. "It was an affectionate request to shut up," he defended himself, "When it's you two, it's always affectionate, okay?"
You and Volt laughed, but his laughter cut short when you abruptly wrapped your arms around him and snuggled close against his side. "He's right about letting us love you, though," you told him, nuzzling against his chest. You placed a kiss in the spot where his heart would be if he were human, and punctuated it with a soft, "Angel."
You decided to take the little choking sound he let out as confirmation that he'd do his best.
