Chapter 1: TIM & LUCY POVS

Chapter Text

TIM

Lucy made sergeant. That was all that had been running on my mind since the second she made me look at it. I mean, of course she did. She is Lucy. My Lucy. My Chen. At least, she was, until I messed it all up. I need to do something. I have to make her know that she still means everything to me. Why did I have to mess us up?? My head hurts and I just woke up. The bed was too big for just me. I turned to grab my phone from the table, only to see 3 missed calls from Angela, and a series of text messages alternating from hers and Wesley's number. I do not have the patience or time for this. My alarm looked at me dead in the eyes telling me that I woke up too late. Unusual of me but I reluctantly got out of bed with Lucy still in my head.

Fifteen minutes later, I was fully dressed and ready to leave. I fed Kojo breakfast(bacon and eggs obviously), grabbed my keys and entered the car as my phone rang. I picked it up so fast not looking at the caller ID thinking it would be Lucy.

"Hello", I said far too eagerly.

"Good morning Timothy! You thought it was Lucy didn't you??"Angela teased.

"What's up Angela?" I asked with a long-suffering sigh.

"Hey, I'm not Lucy but I'm still your best friend who, by the way, has some advice and game plan for you."

"You're just as important. Anyway, I'm not getting out of this advice am I?"

"Nope! Listen to me Bradford, you have to tell that woman you love her today. I don't care how or when, but you have to."

"Angela, I broke up with her and I'm being mindful of that."

"Yes, you have been, Tim, and she knows that too. But you have to let her know soon, otherwise that thought will fade from her mind."

"I know, Ange, I know", I said desperately.

"Tim, listen. Her life is finally sorting itself out. Clearing the sergeants' exam has definitely given her more confidence. She's literally glowing in front of my eye."

"Wait, she's already there??" I asked, speeding my way through traffic.

"Tim, just get here soon! Grey is not going to take moping as a valid excuse for missing roll call."

TIM

Would it kill me to smile at her?! I kicked myself internally as I walked to my shop. Penn had already set the shop up. We got in and started on our day patrol. Memories of Lucy flashed through my head, completely tuning out whatever Penn was saying. Something about a first date or whatever. I only began listening when I figured he'd been talking for a while.

"So, do you have any advice for me?"

"Do I have any advice for you??" I asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.

I forget that Penn doesn't really know the gist of what happened. I was used to Angela n Celina riling me up about it.

"Just don't keep your hopes up. It's like a shark pool out there."

Penn just stared at me looking slightly appalled.

Thankfully, control led us to the next place of crime. We went there in silence, only speaking occasionally and eventually the rest of the day passed like that. I was actually looking forward to the end of the day. Her shift starts then, and I don't know about her, but I'm excited. She deserves the win. After everything he has been through, she deserves something like this. If it were up to me, she deserves the whole world for all that compassion and kindness in her, but at the same time, I'm not exactly one to speak.

I met her before her shift and we made small plans to meet up on Wednesday. I knew that she was free. No, I wasn't stalking. Shut up, Angela. The schedules for all officers can be accessed by colleagues. I may have checked up on hers. But! I needed to let her know how I felt.

I stopped at the store and picked up a few things and headed home. On the way i called Celina.

"Hey, Is this a good time?"

"Yeah, Tim! What's up?"

"I want to talk to her tomorrow and the best way to do so is to spoil her after her first shift."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm asking you if you will let me into your apartment before you head in for your shift tomorrow. I have the midday shift tomorrow, so I'll be free in the morning. I'll whip some breakfast for her. You know, kinda give myself a chance to talk to her."

"Tim, that's so sweet! I don't know about her, but I would definitely fall for someone if they did that for me", she said in a cheery tone.

"NOTED!" Roger called out from the back.

"Okay then i will see u tomorrow", I said with a smile playing its way onto my face.

Something about Lucy just made me happy yet calm but anxious all at the same time.
