Peter Pan Syndrome

Summary:

"Teddy is used to spending his nights in your arms. His object form is small, allowing you to curl yourself around him, your warmth surrounding him on all sides as you both drift off to sleep. This is the way it has been ever since you two met, back when you were kids. Most people stop sleeping with soft toys when they grow up, but you never did. Teddy has never once judged you for that. In fact, he finds it endlessly endearing that you keep seeking out his comfort night after night, even after all these years."

Some Teddy POV musings about a Homeowner who never stopped sleeping with soft toys, and secretly still loves bedtime stories, but was shamed for both of these things.

Work Text:

Teddy is used to spending his nights in your arms. In fact, he finds it endlessly endearing that you keep seeking out his comfort night after night, even after all these years.

When you first awakened him with the Dateviators, you seemed ashamed of your behaviour. You apologised to him, explaining that you couldn’t sleep without him, that you knew it was childish and shameful, but you still needed him. He had simply wrapped you up in a big, warm hug and reassured you that he would be there for you for as long as you needed him to be, that there was nothing to be ashamed of. Secretly, he cursed whoever had made you feel that shame, vowing that if he ever met them, he would give them a piece of his mind.

Now that you have the Dateviators, Teddy can finally return your affections. When you crawl into bed at night, you always save your last charge for him, snuggling up against him to listen to a story. You had always loved bedtime stories as a kid, you tell him, and you were heartbroken when your parents said you were too old for it anymore. Teddy is more than happy to indulge you.

The first night he read to you, it was quite a long story, and Teddy worried you might be getting bored or restless. After the first few minutes, he asked if you needed a break, and you looked up at him with big, sad eyes and begged him not to stop reading. He didn’t bother asking again. You listened to him read for 30 minutes straight, your head on his shoulder, completely relaxed and content. Whenever Teddy glanced down at you, he felt so full of love and affection that he thought he might burst out of his seams.

One night, you came to bed particularly exhausted. You had been on an adventure under the floorboards, you said. Something about Beau’s evil twin. He asked if you wanted to skip the story and go straight to sleep, but you insisted that you wanted to listen to him read like always. You curled up against him, reminiscent of how you always did with his object form, your head resting on his soft belly, an arm slung over his waist. Teddy began to read, but he was barely halfway through before your soft snores reached his ear. Somehow, he couldn’t bring himself to stop, so he kept reading all the way to the end. When he finished, he put the book down, and you blearily opened your eyes, apologising for falling asleep and missing the story. He gently shushed you, stroking your hair until you drifted off once more.

Teddy’s not sure if you’re aware you’ve got him wrapped around your little finger, but he certainly is. If you ask him to read to you for hours on end until he loses his voice, he’ll do it. If you want to use him as a pillow all night long, that’s fine by him. More than fine. You could fall asleep during every single one of his stories, and he would never complain, as long as you kept coming back for more. You have spent so many nights shielding him from the world with your body, keeping him warm and safe and comfortable, and now all he wants is to do the same for you.
