The Mikages are Nagi-phobic

Summary:

“He’s not a suitable match, Reo.” He pushed the stack of files closer, “I’m certain you can find someone better—”

“There isn’t anyone better than Nagi!” Nagi let out a snore, “He’s everything to me.”

His son’s “everything” was currently drooling on his clean table. Mikage winced, praying the maids hadn’t yet gone to bed for the night.

Reo thinks his dad is homophobic. Reo’s dad thinks his son can do better.

Notes:

I checked the Wiki and Reo's parents don't have names, so I just called his dad Mikage. Hope that doesn't confuse anyone.

I want everyone to know that I laughed the entire time I wrote this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Reo, at least look at the candidates I’ve selected for you.”

“I won’t!” Reo snapped. “I’ve already picked someone.”

The someone in question blinked blearily, no doubt half-asleep.

Mikage felt his patience wearing thin. The two had been at it for over an hour. When his son had asked to bring someone to dinner, he had expected a well-respected heiress, not—

“Reooo, I’m bored. Can we go?”

Mikage's eye twitched. At least his wife left early and didn’t have to endure this.

“In a moment, my treasure,” Reo said, petting the other’s head.

He made a noise of disgust. His son looked up sharply. “Is there something you’d like to say?”

“You’re still young, you don’t know what you’re doing.”

“If I’m old enough to decide my future, I’m old enough to know who I want to be with.”

“Think of your children—”

“My what?!”

“Your children,” Mikage repeated. “You’ll need to have an heir in the future. Wouldn’t they be confused with…” he gestured between Reo and Nagi, “…this dynamic?”

Reo slammed his fist on the table. “I am not leaving my boyfriend just because you’re homophobic!”

Mikage blinked. “I’m what?”

“Homophobic. Bigoted. Narrow-minded. Take your pick,” Reo waved his hand angrily.

“Reo,” Mikage pressed his fingers against his aching temples. “I’m not refusing this match because Nagi’s a boy, I’m refusing this match because Nagi has no drive.”

His son looked stunned, frantically looking between him and his slumbering boyfriend. “Wha—wait! Nagi has—”

“Living an easy life is not drive. He’s lazy, unmotivated, and clearly needs you to take care of him,” Mikage shook his head.

“That’s not—”

“While homemaking is a noble profession, I cannot let my only child become a maid for his boyfriend in an unequal partnership.”

“And the children?” Reo asked weakly.

“The children would be confused—having one parent tackle the labor of the workforce and the labor of the household while the other does nothing?” he was appalled. “I will not allow them to be taught such improper things. What if they believe that’s what a marriage is supposed to be like and allow themself to be neglected in their relationships?!”

There was a brief dip in the conversation.

“I didn’t know your dad was such an ally,” Nagi did a thoughtful pause, “and a feminist.”

Mikage huffed. “Of course I am. My wife overlooks just as much of our company as I do. It wouldn't run without her.”

His son seemed to be shellshocked.

“So, you really don’t mind that I like boys?”

Mikage frowned, “Is it only boys?” He flipped through the stack of files on the table. “This stack is mainly of girls, but I have a few boys in here just in case.”

Reo shoved the stack off the table.

“Reo!”

“I love Nagi. That’s not going to change, I know it won’t.”

Mikage sighed. “He’s not a good match for you, Reo. If he can’t even be bothered to carry his own weight—”

“I will.”

Mikage looked over. Nagi was wide awake, sleepy demeanor gone.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to be a good husband to Reo,” he placed a hand on Reo’s, who was turning an impressive shade of scarlet. “I can do the cooking and the cleaning and taking care of our kids. And if he needs me at the company, I’ll learn how to do that too.”

“We can’t even have kids,” Reo said weakly.

“You can adopt,” Mikage waved him off. “Can you even keep up with his intellect? My son is quite brilliant.”

“I always place second in our year.”

“How much do you study?”

“I don’t.”

“And the entrance exam?”

“Ten days.”

There was potential here. Mikage leaned forward a bit. Nagi matched him.

“You went to Blue Lock?”

“I did.”

“Why?”

“Reo.”

“Did you like soccer?”

“Just Reo.”

“Soccer made him happy?”

“Very.”

“But he wasn’t for a while.”

“He wasn’t.” A flicker in otherwise steely eyes. “We fixed it.”

“And now?”

“Like soccer, love Reo.”

Mikage nodded slowly. “Anything else?”

Nagi’s gaze flickered to a red-faced Reo. Mikage would definitely need to teach his son about poker faces soon.

“I love Reo. I’ll be whatever he needs me to be and go wherever he wants me to go,” his fingers intertwined with Reo’s. “Our time together has been the treasure of my life.”

Mikage looked at each of them, considering. They both met his eyes, stares unwavering and defiant.

Mikage nodded to himself and extended a hand to Nagi who shook it firmly.

“Welcome to the family.”
