It had been Ed’s idea, of course. Part of her big masterplan, more like, if you asked Izzy: from the first oh so casual mention of the party just in range of Stede’s hearing, through strategically dropped keywords (dress-up, date night, surprise) all the way to the fluttering eyelashes, she knew exactly what she was doing.
Her bait worked all too well on Bonnet, who appeared next to them in what seemed like seconds, abandoning her previous conversation with Olu, her excitement poorly hidden. Izzy had to roll her eyes as Stede slid a hand up Ed’s forearm and spoke. “Sorry, darling, what was that about a… costume party?”
Ed’s face split in a grin Stede would probably consider innocent and joyful, but Izzy saw right through Eden Teach. Self-satisfied little meddler; the game was barely on and she already knew she’d won.***
