You're here in my head (Like the sun coming out)

Summary:

A person's confidence can definitely be heightened at a party. But when your goal is to ask out one Annabeth Chase, you'd best believe Percy Jackson will have something to say about it.

Notes:

These characters are all over the age of 18. I'm going to make this into an unchronological series, I think. I was just getting loads of ideas for stories while writing this, so stay tuned for that! I hope you enjoy reading! You can find other fanfics I've written on my Tumblr, under the same name <3

Work Text:

Music blared as Annabeth made her way through the crowd that had formed near the main living room area, as 'Africa' began playing over the speakers.

She could feel the eyes of Tommy Atkinson burning into her back as she reached her friends, who were hanging by the huge staircase. How someone in their school, from their town, owned a house this extravagant was beyond them.

"You alright, Wise Girl?" Percy smirked, taking the drink she had brought back for him. He could tell from a mile away that something was wrong. Being best friends since the age of 8 allows that. He could also tell by the deep furrow in her brows as she approached them.

She sighed. "Tommy has been staring at me all night." She gestured over her shoulder, leading to Percy catching a glimpse of the boy as he quickly averted his eyes. He rolled his eyes.

Over the years, he had witnessed many people take a chance with Annabeth. She'd grown up to be the most beautiful person he'd ever seen, so no wonder so many people were dying to call her their own.

But Annabeth never seemed to match their affections.

"He asked me out at lunch yesterday. I don't know why my no wasn't enough for him," She huffed, sitting next to Percy on the step below him. She took a swig of her drink, hoping it would dull the frustration bubbling inside her.

Grover, who up until this point was busy flirting with a girl from his chemistry lecture, turns to the pair. "To be fair, Annabeth, you have turned down every single person who has ever asked you out. The last person you had a crush on was Luke! Even then, that was like 9 years ago." He giggles as he turns back to his lady friend. Annabeth's cheeks flush. Percy's eyes roll.

Ah, yes, the time when Annabeth had a soul-crushing crush on Luke. Percy often refers to this period as the lost years.

"Oh my god, why do you have to bring that up every chance you get! It was never that serious." She sighs, swatting him on the arm.

"Oh come on, Wise Girl, you used to practically drool when he entered a room." She gasped, extending another swat for Percy as he laughed at his friend's embarrassment.

"Guys, I was like 10 years old." She frowned, taking another sip of her drink. She raised her eyes, locking with Tommy as he lurked near the fish tank, around 10ft away from them. "God, can he just go away!"

Percy understood Tommy's turmoil. A beautiful girl like Annabeth, wearing a dress that Percy's never seen her wear before, but prays to the Goddess herself, becomes a common outfit for her. Sharp-tongued with a brain the size of Jupiter, who wouldn't want to ask her out?

What he couldn't understand, however, was his inability to take no for an answer.

As he watched Tommy seemingly pluck up the courage to come over, he looked down at Annabeth, who was beginning to clench her plastic cup. An idea sprang to his mind.

"Stand up" He quickly uttered. She looked up at him, an eyebrow raised.

"What?" He looked at the quickly approaching Tommy. "Stand up, Annabeth." At the urgency in his voice, she stood beside him. He remained seated on his chosen step, meaning the two were pretty much now the same height. For once, Annabeth was just about a few inches taller than him. "What is it?" She questioned.

"Do you trust me?" Her eyebrows had fully met in the centre in confusion. "What are you talking about?" He exhaled, taking hold of her hands. "Do you trust me, Wise Girl?" She followed where his eyes kept drifting. Tommy was about to reach them when she turned back to face Percy.

"Of course," She replied without a hint of falsity. He grinned. "Good, so you better not kill me for this"

In the next second, Percy held his hand to her cheek and brought her into a kiss that knocked the air out of her lungs. Her hands, out of instinct, wrapped around his neck, which brought the two even closer if possible. His lips were soft but intense, creating a feeling Annabeth could see herself getting addicted to. Her fingers ran through his golden curls as Percy's arms locked around her waist.

To fix the issue of Percy's knees, which were blocking Annabeth from getting any closer to him, Percy raised a brave hand to Annabeth's leg, practically scooping her up to sit on his lap with her legs dangling off to the side. This resulted in a surprised squeal from the girl; however was not enough to break the two up from their passionate exchange.

The two were so locked into their own little world, they weren't aware of the small audience they had acquired. Grover had halted his conversation with the girl to gawk at the scene in front of him, as the rest of their friends whooped and cheered at the sudden pda. Tommy scoffed as he stood with his head hanging low.

Annabeth's hands were holding Percy's face as if she were holding up a piece of art found hanging in the Louvre. She could feel herself running out of breath, but didn't want to break the moment the two had created. Not when Percy was traveling the kisses to the corner of her lips, and down her neck. She smiled, tangling her fingers in his hair. His kisses got higher and higher until-

"I think Tommy got the idea." He whispered, tucking a braid behind her ear. She looked him in the eyes, feeling this dizzy spell surround her as she stared into his devastating blues. "Mhm," She murmured, her doe eyes blown wide as a smile came to Percy's face. Unfortunately, she suddenly realised it was actually impossible for her to tear her eyes away from her Seaweed Brain.

Tommy crossed his hands over his chest. "You got an issue, Atkinson?" Percy questioned, throwing the boy a scowl. He watched as Tommy went to answer. A raised eyebrow from Percy was enough to scare the boy out of saying anything, scurrying away, whispering profanities.

Percy looked back at Annabeth, discovering her eyes still locked onto his face. "You alright, Wise Girl? You look a little flustered," He smirked, enjoying the glassy look in her eyes. She sighed heavily, not even caring about the accusation.

Probably because it's true.

"You couldn't have said something? You had to kiss me?" She smiled, reaching to play with a curl on his head. For a second, she could see his cool façade slip, and redness flush his face. "I uh...Yeah, I have no explanation." He chuckles, looking down at his lap, which coincidentally was covered by her legs.

Percy looked back at her, captured by her beautiful face as he always is. "You're not mad?"

Now, Percy wouldn't call himself a highly educated guy. But judging by the way Annabeth pulled him into a second searing kiss, returning to her previous position with her arms wrapped around his neck, his hands finding their home at her middle, she didn't seem to mind Percy's quick, questionably thought-out actions.
