Work Text:

Maybe going for a picnic on a day it's scheduled to rain wasn't Percy's greatest idea, but how could he not when Annabeth was standing there looking so beautiful in pale blue dungarees.

The two had decided to spend their free afternoon indulging in a picnic on the grounds of their university. When the two woke up that morning, the sun was shining, and the sky was clear.

What better time to soak it in with a respectable glass of prosecco, fancy sandwiches from the deli down the street, and soft music playing from Percy's speaker? For a solid hour and a half, the two enjoyed a rare peaceful day.

"The sky's looking a little grey, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth's brows raised as she could see clouds start to form above them. Percy followed her eyeline.

Before Percy even uttered a response, the sky seemed to open up, rain beginning to pick at them as they began to quickly pack up their lunch. "Oh shit," Percy hissed, tipping their drinks while shoving their sandwiches back in their packages.

"Of course, it decided to rain when I wanted to treat my girl to a nice day," He sighed, ruffling his curls out of frustration. Percy cancelled a swim practice, receiving a miffed message from his coach claiming his next practice was going to be extended by three hours, which he was happy to do if it meant Annabeth had a good time. And it was all ruined by heavy rain that was completely flooding the grounds.

Percy was ready to turn to his girlfriend with a thousand apologies, until he saw the wide grin on her face.

Oh yes, how could Percy forget Annabeth's love for the torrential rain?

"What are you doing just standing there, Perce? You can't enjoy the rain like that!" She giggled, taking hold of his hand and pulling him towards her. Percy felt his body sag in relief. The date hadn't been ruined. If anything, it had been improved by the weather.

Percy wrapped his arms around her middle, pushing a braid that had come loose behind her ear. Her arms quickly followed his, wrapping themselves around his neck. While their height difference used to annoy Annabeth, these days she finds it charming.

"We're going to get sick if we stay out here like this for too long," Percy spoke with no concern in his voice, his eyes boring into his girlfriend's as her smile provided all the sun needed. She reached up, softly running her hands through the front of his fringe, the rain doing his curls wonders. "Coach Simmons will not be happy with me if I miss another practice." From what Annabeth could tell, he didn't sound too worried.

He was distracted, to be fair to him. In front of him was the most beautiful girl in the world, who, even drenched in rain, looked like what he imagined Aphrodite looked like.

"So what, looks like we'll have to help each other get better," She responded, enjoying the look on her boyfriend's face. He rolled his eyes, sighing with exaggeration. But the smile creeping through gave away his true feelings.

People around them all rushed to get out of the rain. Using bags or jackets to cover themselves from getting too wet. All of this was happening around the pair as they stood, exposed to the elements. Their clothes were stuck to their bodies, hair was weighed down as their shoes began to fill with water. And yet, it was as if they were standing on a Hawaiian beach.

"Dance with me?" She questioned, holding her arm out. He smiled shyly, placing a hand in hers, squeezing her side softly. The two began to sway. The sound of the rain crashing down around them underscored their makeshift dance that felt so incredibly appropriate.

"Even with mascara running down your face and blue dungarees that used to be a pale blue, you're the most gorgeous person I have ever seen." He smiled, putting a hand on her cheek, using the pad of his thumb to brush any rain away.

Annabeth's smile became soft, her usual witty comebacks lost on her. All she could do was blush and smile as she rose to her feet on tiptoes, planting a kiss on his lips that sent a blazing heat throughout his body. They stood there, swaying, kissing, shivering until Annabeth complained about her soggy socks.

In the end, for the next week or so, the two were locked away in Percy's bedroom, suffering from the consequences of their actions. A grumpy message from Coach Simmons clued Percy in on his fate the next time he showed up to practice, and Annabeth was now unable to make her sorority's Easter raffle. But who cares about runny noses, dry coughs, and a diet of soup when you can spend days cuddled up to your boyfriend, who looks adorable with a bright red nose.
