Chapter Text
If there was one thing knights were afraid of, it was treason. The though of betraying one's kingdom, the kingdom one swore to protect, was something not many knights cold bear, with those choosing to die over betraying their kingdom. Those who have commited the treacherous act would either redeem themselves through ritual suicide, or they would continue to live their lives in guilt. However, those things didn't apply to name, as the most frightful thing to her was not betrayal, rather it was the feeling of helplessness that scared her. [Name] was (going to be) the personal guard to the 8th queen wedded to The King Natsubi Hui Guo Rou, Queen Oito. From what she heard from Mizuki, the palace's messenger-in-training, They wanted someone young to guard Oito as were going to ask her (force her, as Mizuki stated), to carry Natsubi's child, the soon-to-be 14th prince of Kakin. According to Mizuki, Oito specifically asked for a young lady to guard her child, to make his--or her childhood as normal as possible, so that if it comes down to it, he would still have a mother figure to rely on. [Name] found her reasoning quite odd, but decided to say nothing, as Oito was one of Natsubi's wives, immediately making her more important, depite only becoming queen a few months ago. Besides, being a queen's personal guard was a high honor, so [Name] wasn't going to complain. However, it seems like you would never have the chance to, as Mizuki also stated, "Oh yeah, Eriol--you know Eriol? The celestial messenger guy? Yeah, well according to him, you gotta take the hunter exam! And once you do, you'll finally become recognized as one of the White Knights. Isn't that amazing? You always said you were going to take the hunter exam, plus becoming one if the White Knights is extremely prestigious..that's two birds with one stone!" The said with glee. Your heart sank with disappointment. Back then, the only reason you wanted a Hunter's license was to pay your mother's medical fee for her treatment--not that it mattered since she's long gone now, but then again...not only would getting a license set many things aside, you'd also have a chance to finally see the world, beyond the palace walls.
