Work Text:
Ever since you had started dating Morpheus, the King of Dreams, you had hung out around his palace every single night, just talking to everyone. It really elevated your motivation to keep your sleeping rhythm intact at least.
But, as Morpheus was always so gloomy and broody, you just couldn’t help but tease him sometimes. Like right now, you bit your lip, looking at him sitting on his mighty throne, examining the book on his lap. “So… if you’re the Lord of Dreams, does that mean you’re an expert in pillow talk too?”
He didn’t raise his eyes from the book. “I am not familiar with that phrase.”
You shrugged, even though you knew he wasn’t looking at you. “You know. Talking in bed, either before falling asleep, just after waking up or, uh, yeah. You're in charge of people falling asleep and everything that happens before they wake up again, so shouldn’t you also know how to pillow talk properly?”
“I have no experience of such practice so I do not know if I would know how to do it or not.”
“Well, after a rough day, or night, or time, don’t you ever just… go to your chambers and lay down to relax for a moment? Put your head into the pillow and just drift off, just for a moment?”
“I do not sleep.”
You frowned. “Not even naps?”
His eyes flicked to you briefly. “I am in charge of people’s dreams. Sleeping myself would make no difference to my duties and I would continue them even while sleeping, so it is unnecessary.”
You tilted your head at that. “And… how exactly are you in charge of people’s dreams? Do you decide what they dream of?”
He hummed. “People have dreams based on their day, I merely supervise them. I remember all dreams dreamers have had, and Lucienne is archiving every last one of them should I later need them.”
His words took a few moments to register. Wait.
“You mean to say you remember every embarrassing dream I’ve ever seen?” you asked and felt blood rushing into your face and put hands over your face. “You’ve seen my dreams about you before…”
Dream chuckled. “They were… memorable.”
“Can you melt me through the ground right now?” you mumbled from behind your hands, and you could almost feel Dream’s smirking face tilted towards you.
He put his forefinger under your chin, brushing slightly to make you look at him. “I was flattered you saw me that way when you first dreamt about me. It gave me courage to approach you with my feelings.”
You swallowed a few times, looking into his eyes. “Really?”
He hummed again, still smirking slightly. “I wish to be the version of your dreams one day, because that is what you deserve.”
You bit your lip again, swinging slightly on your heels. “Well… you’re already that to me.”
His smirk turned into a smile, before he laid his gaze back to his books, and you couldn’t stop grinning — the Lord of Dreams was really the man of your dreams.
