Work Text:
The motel room The Corinthian had gotten for you two for hiding was awful. The bathroom smelled like a mix of vomit and diarrhea, and the carpet looked like it had gone through three murders.
But still, The Corinthian was the most strange thing in the room. He was your… whatever he was. Your boyfriend? A headache? A literal nightmare that had just gotten interested in you?
You still didn’t know if you were going through some psychotic episode. Men with teeth as their eyes weren’t very common. And even if he would be just a normal man, he was still a serial killer. People like you did not date serial killers, yet here you were.
“Stop looking so nervous, darling,” he murmured, cleaning his knives. “Nobody will find us here.”
You glared down at the pair of cut out, literal human eyes in front of him. “If you think the whole country isn’t after you by now, you’re not just stupid but an idiot for putting me in the line of risk too.”
He smirked, tilting his head slightly as he continued polishing his knife. “Police will be dealt with.”
“And you think they’ll believe you? You don’t look very trustworthy.”
He glanced at you. “I convinced you too, didn’t I? Even when you’ve always stood by the law, you still fell in love with a psychopath.”
You sat up, your face suddenly flaming with heat. “That’s not the same! You- uh, you made me feel important, but unless you’re going to flirt with the police-!”
He just kept going with that infuriating smirk. “No need to yell, sweetheart. The neighbouring room may complain.”
“I’m not yelling!” you snapped, squeezing your hands into fists. “I’m discussing with you with a loud voice!”
He sighed, finally pocketing the knife and turning to face you fully. “As I said, I will deal with the police. They won’t suspect me, nor they will suspect you. Neither of us is in any danger. Trust me.”
You stared at him for a moment before closing your eyes. “You’d better be right. I have my whole life on the line because of you.”
He just smirked again, before pecking your lips, his hand lingering on your cheek and on that moment your stomach rumbled. He let out a short laugh, retreating from you. “I’ll get you something to eat.”
And in the next moment, he was out of the door, leaving you by yourself in the room. You still had a little sliver of doubt lingering in your mind, but this man, this nightmare, had wrapped you so tightly around his fingers that you just couldn’t leave him, and so you were stuck in an endless dance with him.
So you closed your eyes for a moment again, and made yourself believe once again that he would keep his promise. He would take care of everything, and all would stay well in your life. He would know exactly what to do, how to do — and you wouldn’t need to worry. You just had to believe that.
