Stay in my bed

Summary:

This is a rewrite of Sam's 10 hearts event from Stardew Valley
I've used all the dialogue from in game and added some more.

Notes:

I haven't even read through this myself so god knows what I wrote
I've used cameraman English and "mom" because Stardew uses it so sorry if there's any mixtures of British English in there
planning to change the title about 6 times

Anyway here's our favourite golden retriever :3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sam sat leaning against the wall of his house. He was placed between the plant by his doorstep and the round, silver trash can which he quietly tapped a beat on with the back of his nails.

“Hey, Farmer,” Sam said in a hushed voice as you walked over, standing up. “I wanted to talk to you in private…”

“Out here?” You said as a jolt of cold shot through your back.

“I mean…” he caught your gaze again. “It’s kinda cold out here though… let’s sneak into my room.” Automatically, you made for his door but he reached out, locking you in place with his touch and blurted out words. #

“My mum might be up; I left the window open for this.”

You laughed, looking at his terrified face. “We’re not little kids,” you relaxed, looking at the window. “Fine. You’ve got to help me through though.”

Sam nodded and supported you as you climbed in through the open window. He soon followed, sliding the glass down behind him. You both laughed quietly at the childishness of the situation as you stood by the window. You barely knew why you were laughing nor why you hugged him as you giggled into his shirt but he supported you back, placing his chin on your head.

“So, Farmer…” You pulled away, looking him in the eyes. “I know I’ve been talking about the band for a while now…” you both moved further into the room, standing on his green carpet. Band posters covered the space above his bed, next to which sat his blue electric guitar. “But I don't want you to think that's all I'm interested in.” His words almost made you laugh again. What was he on about?

“Of course it's not; you skate and play solarian chronicles and you have the coolest hair-” you start, forgetting to keep quiet. Sam cuts you off.

“Um… Er… What I mean is…” Sam puts his hand on the back of his head, sheepishly, feeling his spiky hair... it was so beautiful. “Well, I’m really happy that we've grown so close… Heh.”

You couldn't help but smile at his cute and flustered expression. He was such a softie when you were alone. Warmly, you felt the same way. You were glad you’d gotten to know the idiot in front of you so well, glad you knew him well enough to see the room around you really reflect him. You heard a subtle creak from the corridor that Sam didn't seem to notice. The moment in which you were glanced away, the blushing and nervous blond asked a brain splitting question.

“Farmer… do you think of me as just a friend?”

Knock knock knock

Sam lurched, his stature contorting as his head whipped to the door.

“Yoba-” he breathed quickly, eyes wide and panicked.

“Sam?” Jodi’s voice came from behind the door, “I’m coming in!”

Sam dramatically fell a bit in his step, stumbling as his mind dashed around the room. “Quick! Hide in the bed!”

Without a second thought, you did as Sam said, practically diving onto the mattress and under the sheets. They were warm and smelt just like him. Your arm met a small cartoon plushy you vaguely recognised from a comic he’d shown you. You lay your body as flat and as inhumanly shaped as you could.

“What’s wrong, honey? Were you doing something… bad?” Jodi’s sceptical voice followed the sound of the creaking door. Sam looked at his mother, still bright red in the face. “Hey, uh.. what?”

“I thought I heard some weird sounds coming from your room…” Jodi raised an eyebrow, staring down Sam. He clumsily moved in front of the bed, blocking any view of your hiding spot.

“No Mom! I was just… doing push-ups! I wanna beat Dad at arm-wrestling some day! …heh.”

“Oh!” Sam’s mom giggled, covering her mouth with her hand gently. “That explains why you're all red and sweaty.” Sam’s jaw dropped a little bit, eyes flinching wider for a millisecond. She wasn't wrong; Sam was so red she’d have a valid reason for any suspicion.

“Really? I didn't notice-” he said, nervously laughing and casually leading Jodi back towards the door.

“Okay, well good luck. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Goodnight, Mom.” Sam said. Jodi smiled at her son as he shut the door behind her, half apologetically. “Thank Yoba…” he quietly wined. He leaned his head against the wooden door, the interaction clearly having worn him out. “Whew… That was close.” You stayed in his bed, too comfortable to move. Since hearing the door close, you’d peaked out from under the sheets to see Sam over the room. He slowly turned around, still red in the face.

“You alright, Sam?” You asked, genuinely. “You are really red.”

“Yeah, I’m alright… just… about what I was saying before… Actually, I’m not even sure if you heard. Nevermind.”

“Sam, I heard,” you smiled, exhaling a laugh. “You asked if I saw you as just a friend.” He stopped, staring at a spot just over your head.

“I mean… yeah that's what I… said,” he mumbled, embarrassed.

“We can be more, if that's what you’re implying,” you smiled, resting your head back on the pillow as you lay on your side.

“I’d love that-” he said quickly, surprised at both your reactions. “I’d… love that, Farmer.”

“I’d love that too, Sam.” You said, briefly shutting your eyes in the comfort of his bed. Sam waited, watching you as they slid open and closed.

“...Farmer?” He said, tentatively. You stayed there, awake but unwilling to move. You smiled at him and he smiled back.

He slowly walked over, climbing into the bed with you. His breathing was audible and it made you far too aware of your own. You both laughed together quietly. Why did you keep laughing? You both smiled. He put an arm around you, the other on your cheek. And before you knew it, you were both leaning in until your lips touched.
