Work Text:
“So, you want to go to the movies?” Stevie said. It was a sunny day in the late hawkins, nothing but bees and the sweet smell of honey filled the outside air. The smell of grease and cheap coffee strikes Stevie’s nose. Stevie sat inside the hometown diner, sipping his milkshake, and looked back at Eddie.
“Movies..?” Eddie said slowly. “You want me to take you to the movies?” He said while slowly stirring his not-melted chocolate milkshake.
Stevie nodded his head with a small grin plastered on his face. “Like a date?” Eddie asked. Stevie nodded again. See, the thing was, he’s taking a liking towards Eddie recently these past couple of months. Most would ask why, considering the metalhead is not the friendly type or the usual type. But contrary to popular belief, he liked him.
Steve liked him.
He liked the way Eddie carried his metal ring fingers on his stubby hands, the way his curly hair framed most of his face, his nonchalant attitude, and the way he carried himself. He felt a sense of safety towards him like no other, and that was all that mattered to Stevie.
“And why would I do that?” Eddie said with a confused and slightly annoyed look on his face.
“I just think we could have fun, it’s this movie called ‘stand by me’, everyone has been talking about and I was just thinking we should go you know.” Stevie rubbed the back of his neck and shrugged his shoulders half heartedly.
Eddie sighed from his seat and stared back at Stevie.
“I’m not sure, I don’t think that shit is my kind of thing”
“Oh, cmon Eds please, maybe this could work”
“Yeah, and be plastered with annoying fucking people in a theater making out instead of watching the fucking movie yeah, no thanks”
The trucker on the left side of the room tries to obnoxiously fix the jukebox that sat cornered by two marbled colored posters of the owner, Mrs. Jackson and her husband Mr. Jackson.
“I just thought we could enjoy ourselves, I mean, with bills and everything I was thinking we could have just one night out to ourselves,” Stevie said, moving his gaze towards the happy family outside. The little girl was happily frolicking around as her mom and dad stood next to each other, wrapped in the other’s arms.
He envied them.
Eddie looks at Steve and sighs. He’s not the usual type to be doing all the lovey-dovey shit in public, but the weakness he has for Steve’s eyes couldn’t help but weigh him down with a sudden sense of guilt he never asked for.
That’s what scared him.
It wasn’t unbeknownst to him that steve had some sort of crush on him or taken some kind of likeness to him this past year. The constant nights of sweat filled sex filled between the two. They lived together in an old run-down trailer that just-made-by with paying the bills. Stevie’s girlfriends would come over, and their hushed whispers never go unnoticed to eddie. The gossiping, the screaming, and most importantly, the spying. And sure maybe Eddie is an asshole for not saying anything about this crush the kid had, but he just never cared to.
In all honesty, he is surprised that Stevie liking him is even the case. Eddie doesn’t do dating, doesn’t do all the love shit, or vulnerability. So this is the last thing he maybe wants to be stuck in.
“I mean you always pick boring shit” Eddie mutters. “If the ‘breakfast club’ isn’t one of the most cliché and most boring shit I ever watched, then I don’t know what is.”
Stevie returns his head towards Eddie and gives a small smile. He knows this is Eddie’s way of saying yes. He just has to get it out of him. “Hey! That’s not fair, that was a good movie and very much portrayed ho-“
“I don’t care” Eddie says finally. He rubs his hands together to remove the salt from the fries he woofed down.
“Besides I picked something different this time you know. I heard it’s a really good movie Eddie.” He says and smiles.
“Plus I got the recommendation from Rick” Stevie says
“Wait you talk to Rick?” Eddie perks up. Rick is Eddie’s supplier still to this day, but he is also a best-friend he trust in. And that’s not easy to say for Eddie. He has a hard time trusting in people or even meeting new people without knowing their intentions. That’s why if he were to pick a superpower, it would be mind reading. I mean who doesn’t want to know someone intentions to avoid the action of being hurt.
“Yeah seen him down there at the market, he was buying potatoes for whatever the fuck reason” Stevie said. “But that’s besides the point, the movie will be good trust”
“I don’t know, I might be busy” Eddie says. He grabs his straw from the table to sip his watered-down coke.
The words hit him like a ton of bricks. This is the answer he got on most days towards questions now. Stevie rubs his hands together and sways into his seat. He glances towards Eddie hands and wonders how would they feel exploring his body. Not to desperately try to avoid him, but touching him with love. Asking for permission to take his body.
And Steve would say yes. Every-time. He would let Eddie bury himself inside of him and crawl out once he’s down tearing him open. Maybe that’s his weakness.
Stevie bites back. The moment of loss of hope almost takes over him. But he refuses to give in. If Eddie wants to act that way, he can just make it so that he has no way out to refuse. Because this is what Stevie needs, what he wants. He wants the hidden softness located behind Eddie’s eyes. He wants the soft kisses plastered on his neck in the morning. He wants it. And he’s gonna get it.
Stevie sits up slowly and fixes his posture into something more brave-like.
“I’m sure you can make some time for me.” he says.
“Just two hours”
Eddie sat silently. Nothing but gazing outside of the dusty window that stood beside them. The sun beamed off of his pale face. His brown faced eyes shone with the intent to only blind does who looked. Eddie flicked his jaw and stared back and stevie. Thats how he knew he had him.
Stevie leg bounces repeatedly in a state of nervousness. He glances towards Eddie and can see he is in deep thought. He’s not done. Stevie can tell when he’s truly done with something. No this is something new. Something Stevie has been craving. He envied anyone who even got a smidge of what Eddie really is. He only wanted it all to himself. Every part of him.
Nobody else could have it.
And he knows he’s deserving of it all.
“Tomorrow is suppose to be a pretty night out. Rod says we might even see a rainbow” Stevie says.
Eddie snorts and shifts “Are you talking to me about the fucking weather?”
“Shut up I’m just saying this could be good for us” Stevie says while picking at his nails.
“Don’t you want to try”
“Try what exactly”
“Us Eddie” Stevie says desperately. Eddie sways into his seat and sighs. “There is no us” He says. Stevie’s eyes glances down. His heart weeps desperately, but he want leg it take over him. He knows this is all a face. To get him leave. To keep him away. He won’t let him though. What he doesn’t understand is that Steve love all parts of Eddie. His good sides, his bad sides, even the sides he is hiding from him.
He loves him.
And nothing will change that.
“There is,” Stevie says finally. “And you have to be willing to try Eddie. I know you feel it to, and it hurts” Stevie said. He’s holding himself together not to cry to get the words out he’s been desperately begging to say.
Eddie sighs and looks at him. “Like I said, its not really my thing”
Stevie gives out a polite smiles and squints his eyes. He left his glasses home on the night stand next to his bed. He thinks about the incoming headache he will have later to come.
“God Eddie for once you can like something other than your rock shit.” Stevie smiles and gazes at Eddie.
“It’s metal.”
“It’s what-the-fuck-ever. Besides we can just be stupid teenagers again you know. Without a care in the world, have fun, make a few mistakes.” Stevie says. He smiles and pats tugs at Eddie’s rough hands. Stevie loved Eddie’s hands. Countless days at the mechanic shop working with his uncle, caused the metalhead to develop a rough texture. Stevie didn’t care he wanted to feel those hands travel up his thigh and up his stomach.
Eddie looks away, jaw flinched and leg shaking. He doesn’t want to think of the possibility that maybe this could work. Maybe he could have a good time and let himself just have a good time. With Steve.
Stevie.
Stevie who he hated. Stevie who annoyed him like no other could. Stevie who annoyingly packed him lunch for work in the morning. Stevie who always did his laundry every Sunday when Eddie would be burnt-out. Stevie whose light brown hair glistened in the wind. Stevie who trailed kisses under his jaw after sex. Stevie who has always been there when Eddie wanted out. Stevie who he craved. Stevie who he wanted. Stevie whom he loved.
And who is he fooling, he knew this would always be the outcome.
“I just want us to spend time together, outside of sex. Outside of that trailer. Just you and me and maybe we could make something work. Is that unusual?” Stevie says.
“Not unusual, just different” Eddie says. He sighs and huffs. Turns towards stevie, gaze heavily on him with no intent of breaking.
“And who’s to say you just won’t annoy the fuck out of me during the whole thing,” He says.
Stevie smiles softly and gazes back. “I mean I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do that”
Stevie watches him lovingly. He loves watching Eddie. It’s his favorite thing to do. He would spend days glancing at him or even watching him sleep so soundly, so soft. In those moments he might even be lucky and have Eddie’s hand come around his waist, and tuck him under his chin. Steve cherished those moments. And craved every second like no other.
“And maybe different is meant for us.” Stevie says holding his gaze upwards.
In this moment it was almost like a competition for who would be the first to break the gaze. Both weren’t backing down. And maybe won’t be.
Eddie sighs “This is really something you want to do.” He says. “ And be honest with me, because I swear If this is some dumb shit you can count me out.”
Stevie slightly smiles “Yes Eddie, out of all people you know I wouldn’t take nothing like this lightly.” He says.
Eddie leans forwards and tilts his head. “God what the fuck am I getting myself into”
Stevie heart jumped, and in that moment, he could have flown out of his seat and kissed Eddie. The sound of a yes. An honest yes.
“Honey, I’ll go easy on you, I promise..” Stevie smiles and he genuinely believes nothing can ruin this moment for him other than a no.
“I’m sure you will” Eddie says with a slight smile coming across his face. Steve loved Eddie’s smile. It probably could make his whole day if he could just see it everyday. His slight chipped tooth, and a small grin. He could wish for that everyday.
Stevie voice comes out softer than expected “So is that a yes I’m hearing or..” He says
Eddie’s gaze stays on him and he sits up. He licks his lips and grabs both of Stevie’s hands across the table. Stevie feels like his heart stops. The noise in the diner goes quiet and nothing but the sound of Eddie’s breathing and Steve’s beating heart filled his ears.
This is it.
“Yes baby I’ll go with you.”
