Work Text:
Tamaki was currently up in his dorm room, having Mirio help him get ready for his third date with Nejire. It’d been about a week since they’d told Mirio (It is currently the next Sunday).
“Tamaki, you look fine. Stop fussing over everything, you’ve already been on two dates, what’s so different about this one?” Mirio said as Tamaki adjusted his shirt’s collar for the one hundred and eighth time in the past hour.
“I don’t know. We’ve never done anything fancier like this before,” Tamaki replied.
“I’m sure it’ll be great. Stop worrying,” Mirio gave him an encouraging smile.
Tamaki just sighed and checked the time. “Well, it’s about time for me to meet Nejire in the common room, I'd better go.”
“Alright, have fun on your date!” Mirio gave him a thumbs-up before he left.
Nejire was already down in the common room, wearing a sparkly blue dress that barely reached her knees, with a white cardigan over her shoulders. It matched well with Tamaki’s blue dress shirt and white tie.
“You look amazing.” Tamaki blushed.
“So do you,” Nejire replied, kissing him on the cheek. “Shall we go?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
The two headed off in the direction of the restaurant. It was a fairly new place, so it didn’t have many ratings, but it looked nice enough.
They used the coupons they’d received from the ice cream eating contest to get in and were led to a table. The restaurant was almost completely empty, just a couple of other people sitting at other tables.
“Here are the menus, I’ll be your server tonight,” A girl, maybe about 17 in age, greeted them.
Tamaki and Nejire both decided what they wanted pretty quickly. Tamaki chose a dish with oysters and a salad, while Nejire chose a sort of ramen. They ordered drinks as well and waited for about ten minutes until their food was brought to them.
They ate and talked about stuff (idk what they’re talking about, just imagine something) until their food was gone. Then they left the restaurant (remember, they earned this dinner for free).
They headed to the park, sitting on a bench near a fountain to gaze at the stars. The night was beautiful, but after an hour, Tamaki couldn’t focus on it.
His stomach was cramping, and he was beginning to feel extremely nauseous. The night air felt hotter than before, and it caused him to sweat. All he could do was hug his stomach with one arm and have his other hand over his mouth.
“Hey, you okay?” Nejire placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I, um…” Tamaki swallowed back a gag. “I don’t feel so good.”
Nejire slightly frowned, and placed her hand on his cheek. “You feel warm. When did you start feeling sick?”
“Only about-” Tamaki swallowed the gag back again. “About half an hour ago I think.”
“Do you think it was something you ate? You seemed fine when we left,” Nejire’s brow was wrinkled with worry.
Tamaki couldn’t answer because he was too busy trying not to projectile vomit all over the cobblestone pathway. Drool was pooling in his mouth, and he could practically feel the color draining from his face.
He barely processed it as Nejire helped him up and led him to a public trash can near the bench they’d been on. He barely processed that she was holding him up, as he was violently trembling.
“Come on, you’ll feel better afterwards,” Nejire said calmly, knowing how much Tamaki hated throwing up (who doesn’t hate it tbh).
At that, Tamaki’s stomach lurched into his mouth, and next thing he knew, it was spewing out. He removed his hand and stuck his face closer to the garbage can, losing his dinner. He barely got a break before his stomach lurched again.
“Just get it out.” Nejire rubbed circles on his back in an attempt to comfort him.
After about ten minutes, Tamaki stopped puking. “I think I’m done for now…” His voice was scratchy and raw from the vomit.
“We should head back to the dorms,” Nejire decided. “You’ll be more comfortable in your own space.”
Tamaki simply nodded, and let Nejire guide him through a shaky walk back to the dorm building. Luckily, it wasn’t too far, and they made it there pretty quickly.
“Whoa, you two are back earlier than I expect-” Mirio cut himself short when he saw the state Tamaki was in. All color had been drained out of his face, giving it a strange grayish-green hue. His body was trembling, and his cheeks were flushed.
“Yeah, Tamaki’s not feeling too well,” Nejire replied.
“What happened? He was fine earlier,” Mirio was concerned.
“Must… have been… something I-” He swallowed back a gag. “Ate.”
“Come on, let’s get you to your dorm,” Nejire said, noticing Tamaki was close to barfing again.
“I’ll bring up some pepto, water, and crackers.” Mirio wanted to help. He wasn’t about to watch his friend suffer and do nothing about it.
Nejire gave him a small nod before leading Tamaki up the stairs. By the time they got there, Tamaki rushed himself to the bathroom, immediately heaving over the toilet. Nejire took to rubbing circles on his back again.
“I am here,” Mirio said quietly as he entered the room. Both his friends were on the bathroom floor, with Tamaki currently losing his stomach contents into the bowl of the toilet.
After five minutes, Tamaki got another break. Nejire used this break to get pajamas on, and Tamaki did as well, with a little bit of help from Mirio.
“Got some nasty food poisoning, huh?” Mirio said while helping Tamaki brush his teeth.
“Yeah, the oysters must have been undercooked,” Tamaki replied, his voice hoarse. “I don’t think I’ll be able to eat them again.”
“Me neither after seeing this,” Mirio commented.
“Alright, I’m back,” Nejire entered the bathroom. “Feeling any better, Tama?”
“Do you want me to give you the honest answer?” Tamaki asked tiredly. Nejire nodded. “Well, honestly, I still feel pretty awful. I think I’m just going to try to sleep.”
With that, Tamaki flopped on his bed and fell asleep. Nejire was hesitant to leave him, just in case he woke up sick again, but Mirio promised he’d rush over at any sound of Tamaki throwing up, as he was in the room next door. (since we never see the other class dorms, we’re just going to pretend like this is canon)
“I’ll make sure he gets what he needs, okay? You go get some sleep,” Mirio tried.
“But how can I sleep when my boyfriend is sick?” Nejire questioned.
“He’s asleep for now, Hado. If Tamaki ends up needing you, I’ll come get you right away, okay?” This made Nejire agree and head to bed. Mirio headed to bed himself.
About an hour later, Tamaki woke up to his stomach cramping. He rushed to the bathroom, though this time it wasn’t to vomit. Unfortunately, another symptom of food poisoning is diarrhea.
After he’d finished up with that, his nausea came back, so he sat in front of the toilet just in case. And after a few minutes, his stomach lurched, and he was sent into a round of vomiting.
Soon Tamaki heard a knock on his bathroom door. Mirio’s voice came through, asking if he was okay.
Tamaki quickly got up to unlock the door, before heading straight back to the toilet and heaving again. Mirio was by his side in an instant, rubbing his back similarly to the way Nejire had previously that night.
“How about once you’re done, we get you some pepto? I forgot to give you some before you fell asleep,” Mirio suggested.
“Yeah, that soun-” Tamaki couldn’t finish his sentence as he puked again.
“I’ll go grab it,” Mirio left the bathroom for a few seconds, coming back with the pepto he’d brought up earlier. He started measuring the right dose while Tamaki was now dry heaving.
After a bit, Tamaki was finished with this hopefully-the-last round of vomiting. He quickly took the pepto Mirio held out to him, and then had Mirio help him brush his teeth again, his body barely keeping itself up.
“You wanna try to go back to sleep now?” Mirio asked with a yawn.
“I might wait until the pepto kicks in. But you can go back to bed,” Tamaki yawned. (yawns are totally contagious guys)
Mirio headed back to bed while Tamaki put on a Disney movie to help calm him after the stressful night. He fell asleep halfway through it, feeling better after taking the pepto.
“Wow, you’re still sleeping?” Nejire’s voice broke through his sleep.
Tamaki slowly got up and rubbed his eyes, realizing it was much brighter now. “What time is it?”
“About 12 or so, I thought I’d visit you during lunch. How are you feeling?” Nejire sat on the edge of his bed.
“Exhausted and a bit sore from all the throwing up,” Tamaki answered honestly. “And my body may still be a bit weak, but I think I got it all out of my system.”
“That’s good,” Nejire smiled, then yawned.
“Did you get any sleep last night?” Tamaki asked. There were dark circles under his girlfriend’s eyes.
“No, not really. I was worried about you, but Mirio never came to get me so it must’ve been fine,” Nejire yawned again.
“Huh?” Tamaki was a little confused.
“He promised me that he’d come get me if you needed it.”
“Oh.”
“So, did you stay asleep the whole time, or did you wake up sick again?”
“I… I woke up sick again. Mirio came in and helped, and gave me a dose of pepto that helped me finally get a peaceful sleep.”
“That’s good.” Nejire yawned again. “Well, I’ve got to get back to school. By the way, Mirio will be bringing any homework we have over later. If you can, try to eat something, see you later.” She began to head out the door.
“Oh, and, Tamaki?” She said, turning back.
“Yeah, Nejire?” Tamaki asked.
“I love you.” It was the first time either of them had said it.
Tamaki gave his first real smile since yesterday. “I love you too.”
