"Do you trust me?" Natasha asked. "Truly trust me, not just surface level."
She stared at Clint. He met her eyes with his own and she felt as if he could see straight through to her very soul. She didn't know why she had asked him the question in the first place. It had just come out of her.
"Of course I do," Clint said. "I trust you with everything."
There wasn't any sign of a lie in his face or his voice. Not that she could see. And she knew all of his tells. Especially when they were sitting so close and looking in each other's eyes the way they were.
"Why would you trust me after everything?"
"Because of everything. You've proven with your actions that I can trust you."
"What if I am trying to lure you into a false sense of security."
The serious expression on his face gained a hint of a smile. Which was unexpected yet still felt right for Clint.
"If you are just trying to trick me, then I am to blame for my own lack of judgment. But I don't think I am wrong."
Something inside her healed with that trust.
