Chapter Text
Everyone knew how sirens were born. They were born of merfolk, but fascinated by humans, lured them into the sea with their song. Eventually, they became corrupted, and their song turned deadly, enchanting people under their control.
Everyone would be wrong.
In fact, merfolk didn't even exist.
The first siren was a young cultivator, someone who loved singing, and used it in musical cultivation. But when fighting a water yao, singing to try and make it fall asleep in order to kill it, it backfired.
The cultivators music and cultivation was changed, she was knocked into the water, choked with resentful energy-
And she transformed.
Ever since, when she sang, it would bewitch those around her to do her bidding, her eyes would turn black, if she cried while singing the tears would be like ink, the irises would glow purple — to match her sect, the Jiang sect of which she was heir. It was called the Siren's Eye, and eventually she was able to control when it appeared.
But the effect of her singing was always the same.
When in the water, her hands became webbed, and gills appeared on her neck.
She had claws, which she could extend and retract at will, and all her teeth could become sharp if she so desired, her canines always just a little sharper than an average human.
And she was filled with a strange desire — a desire to feed whenever she smelled blood. It made her lose control and attack. And she accidentally killed her best friend.
And so, to keep her friends and family safe, she fled, disappearing. Nobody ever saw her again without being corrupted in the same way or bewitched and eaten.
After a while, sirens died out, becoming a creature of tale, a myth, something that didn't exist.
Our tale begins with the beginning of five new sirens, who worked together to stay in control and live amongst humans like before.
