"Ooh what about this one?"
They walked down the patio section, perusing the glass tabletops and umbrellas that match the chair cushions.
Last summer, they bought a new place further into the suburbs with their double attending salary. Bigger than their last. The two spent the winter renovating and repainting every nook and cranny until it felt just right. They spruced it right up.
Now, all that's left is that pesky backyard with all the trees and bushes. Having uncharacteristically saved it for the last minute, they finally find themselves at Costco, in hopes of buying the outdoor furniture they bookmarked and budgeted last year.
Langdon pushed the cart forward and Mel, cradling her belly, walked along behind him. He always found her slight waddle adorable, said she looked like a penguin in her scrubs.
"Hmm, too grey," Mel replied, scrunching her nose, "it wouldn't match the new wood staining."
"Good eye, sweetheart, we should lean a little warmer."
Mel beamed. After all their years, his compliments still send the blood right to her cheeks.
