Chapter 1: Shaoyou's POV

Chapter Text

Shaoyou didn't go to parties that often.

Glasses filled with wine were being carried around by waiters, accompanied by soft murmurs of conversations- business, impersonal, surface level.

He grabs one of his own, and fixes his suit as his eyes swept over the crowd with practiced ease. He nods at familiar faces, smiles at friends or acquaintances. It had become easy to fake it after a point.

Then, Shaoyou's eyes land on him. Hua Yong. His ex of two years. Yong was already looking at him.

Shaoyou looks away quickly, and covers up his anxiety by taking a longer sip of wine, which went down his throat with a burn.

Memories flash through his mind. Sneaking out of parties like these to get ice cream. Making out in the back of Yong's bentley. Driving away to their secret location and kissing on the hood of the car. Mini dates at home where they attempted to paint each others faces. Kissing till they couldn't breathe anymore. Laughing till they cried. Holding each other whenever things got too hard.

Now Shaoyou went home everyday to nothing. No warmth, no kisses, no Yong.

Yong looked the same, but his hair was slightly longer. His suit was dark, the color of midnight, which made him look beautiful, but Shaoyou missed the Yong who wore soft orange sweaters and nuzzled into his arms.

Shaoyou missed Yong so much.

He still remembered the day everything went wrong. Every word that was spoken that day was etched into his memory, haunting him everyday. Shaoyou still remembered the hurt look in Yong's eyes, and the words he'd said after. "Let's break up."

Shaoyou should have said something. Anything. But he didn't. Like a coward, he'd nodded. Even when Yong asked again, his eyes wet, voice shaking slightly. "You want to break up?"

"Yes," Shaoyou had lied.

And now, Yong wasn't his anymore.

He watches Yong interact with others, his demeanor relaxed and confident. Shaoyou had heard. Yong was successful now. More than he'd been when they were together.

Shaoyou could only watch him in regret.

Yong, if I say sorry, will you take me back?
