Work Text:

“The first meeting will be next Thursday, we’ll send out a reminder.” The girl behind the booth of the Seoul University HipHop Dance Club collects both the forms Jungkook and Hoseok just filled out.

Hoseok grins at her. “I’m looking forward to it!!”

Upon Jungkooks quiet but no less enthusiastic nods, the girl chuckles. She’s about Hoseoks age, and one of the organizers. “Me too. I can already tell you’re going to be valued members of our club. We’ll see us then!”

“See you!”

After saying goodbye, Jungkook and Hoseok continue their path along the booths. Most of those are colourful, bright and inviting, established members smiling behind the table, handing out flyers. When Hoseok had to choose were to apply for his Masters, he only considered universities with decent dance clubs. He’s glad he got in here, the Dance Clubs’ videos on YouTube were really impressive. Here, he’ll really be able to learn something.

He’s even more glad that Jungkook ended up in the same university as him. Their arms bump as they walk, the crowded path not leaving them much space. Jungkook, in his baggy black clothing, piercings and huge boots, surely is a contrast to Hoseoks own appearance. For this exciting first day of university, he picked out bright blue jeans, a green shirt and a few accessories.

Nobody would think they’re friends, but after meeting during their military service they quickly became close. First it was their shared love for dance and music and soon everything else too. Hoseok doesn’t think he’s had a friend as dear to him as Jungkook ever before.

At a crossway, Hoseok turns to their right and suddenly sees a huge pride flag flying high over everything else. It’s still a little distance till there, but he can already see all the colours decorating the booth beneath. There seems to be a ton of different flags.

“They have an LGBTQ+ Club?”, he exclaims happily and steers Jungkook in its direction. Not that the younger would mind, they’re both gay after all.

To his surprise, Jungkook is decidedly not surprised. “Yeah, it’s really cool. And new.”

“You looked it up already?”, Hoseok coos, throwing an arm over his shoulder to pull him closer. Jungkook, who did his military service early and is only starting to study now, was even more excited than Hoseok about this. Apparently his older brother is studying here too but couldn’t accompany him today. It’s cute that he looked up the clubs even before coming. Hoseok only really cared about the Dance club.

Now Jungkook shrugs his shoulder, acting nonchalant. “They do Queer Movie Nights, they have a hotline, anonymous help letters, monthly meetups… It’s really cool. I want to sign up.”

They’re pretty close to the booth by then. A few people are standing there, the club members all wearing rainbow-coloured armbands. While Hoseok didn’t really plan on signing up anywhere besides Dance so he won’t be drowned in work right from the start, this might be an exception. His steps quicken. “I might too- Oh. My. God.”

“Huh?” Hoseok only faintly registers Jungkook looking around, confused by his sudden stop after he was practically speeding towards the booth. He just can’t help it though – right in front of them, one of the club members is handing out little pride flags.

It shouldn’t be out of the ordinary. But that man is the absolute prettiest person Hoseok has ever seen in his life. His clothes aren’t that eye-catching, a plain white shirt tucked into dark jeans, accentuating his waist, a contrast against deliciously broad shoulders. He’s smiling at someone taking a flag, the corners of his eyes crinkling, his pink lips revealing a hint of small teeth. The apples of his cheeks are faintly blushed, his nose a small button.

Hoseok is holding his heart with one hand. Just the sight has already captivated him. He takes a step closer, and faintly feels something tugging him back. With great trepidation, he takes his eyes off the prettiest boy in the universe to look at – Jungkook. “What?”

“What just happened?”, his friend questions, utterly confused, and a little amused.

Hoseok sighs dreamily, and looks back at him. Subtly, he nods in his direction. “We need to sign up immediately. That guy handing out flags? He’s too beautiful to be real! The most adorable creature I’ve ever seen, I wanna keep him in a little flower field and feed him by hand and let him nap with is head on my thighs.”

“You what!?”, Jungkook whisper-yells. “That is my brother!”

Suddenly it’s very easy to look away once more, at Jungkook. Who looks just a little bit horrified. Hoseok grabs both his arms. “That’s your older brother?”

Jungkook nods.

“Introduce me. Please. I’ll do everything for a chance to talk to him.”

And Hoseok thought they’re friends. Hoseok really thought his puppy eyes are irresistible. That Jungkook would do this very simple, life-altering thing for him. But he slowly begins to shake his head.

“Eh? What no, why are you shaking your head?”

Jungkook grimaces. “After what you just said I’m not sure I want to introduce you. Not sure I want you around him at all.”

“Calm down it’s a metaphor,” Hoseok groans, “I’ll cherish him forever. I promise. He can trample my heart, and I’d try to wipe the blood of his perfect ankles.” (His ankles are perfect, just barely peeking out between the jeans and shoes.)

Jungkook growls at him for a short moment. They’re close enough that he does know a lot about Hoseoks (sparse) dating life. That he knows, Hoseok means what he says, and is actually a decent man. Apparently, when it comes to his own brother, he isn’t that easy to convince. Hoseok understands. The man looks kind, giving. Like you just want to protect him.

“Look, he’s not even into men,” Jungkook huffs, obviously changing strategies.

“He’s in the club, no?”, Hoseok waves his hand at the booth. His eyes followed automatically, and for a moment he’s caught once again by the sight. Jungkooks’ Brother is currently sorting the flyers, his hands seem big even from the distance, gentle – Jungkook grabs his chin and turns him away again.

“Because of me.”

Hoseok tilts his head in question.

“When I came out to my family, it was… okay.” Hoseok, who already knows this because Jungkook told them about year ago while they were in the military together, nods. “But the more time passed, the weirder our mother was about it. Like at first she thought it was some kind of wild phase I’d grow out of, but I didn’t and now she’s kind of awful. But the worse it got with her, the more supportive my brother became and last semester when they looked for members to create this club, he signed up immediately to help.”

For a moment, Hoseok is distracted from Jungkooks brother. He jumps forward and crushes Jungkook into a bear hug. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier! Doesn’t matter. I’m here for you, okay? Whenever you want to talk about it or need anything. You’re so loved, okay?”

“Oh.” Jungkook nuzzles into his neck, suddenly emotional. “Okay. I- I didn’t want to think about it because nothing I or Yoongi-Hyung say seems to help and… argh… not today? I want to have a good day.”

Hoseok nods against him, and presses a quick kiss to his hair. “Whatever you want.”

They separate slowly. Jungkook scrunches up his face, looks even more like a bunny than usual in the process, and smiles. “Yeah, let’s please talk about something else.”

“About your absolute vision of a brother for example?” Hoseok snorts when Jungkook dramatically stumbles backwards like he’s been stabbed. While he did mean what he said, he only said so Jungkook would react like this. So predictable. “You said his name his Yoongi? Is he older than me?”

“He is.” Jungkook narrows his eyes. “We can go sign up and say hello. Are you going to behave?”

“I’m not going to propose to him,” Hoseok teases. It makes Jungkook laughs as well, and they start moving again, towards the booth. Under his breath, Hoseok mumbles, “not yet.”

At the booth, Yoongi is just busy getting new flags from the back, so Jungkook and Hoseok first begin to fill out the forms quickly. A few seconds later, Yoongi steps right next to Jungkook, his smile widening. Oh no, Hoseok thinks. He could drown in that smile. His gums peek out; his teeth are in fact as cute as they seemed. His skin is rather pale, his eyes a perfect earthy brown. Luckily, Yoongi is busy greeting Jungkook and doesn’t notice Hoseok staring.

“I’m here with my friend from the military, Jung Hoseok,” He faintly registers Jungkook saying, and straightens himself. Puts on his best, friendly smile and bows towards Yoongi. Who is glaring? Why is he doing that? He looks absolutely adorable like that, but what has Hoseok done?

Jungkook pokes his brothers side suddenly, shaking his head. “We’re not dating and also not on the way there, stop the tough act Hyung,” he whines. It’s adorable. Both brothers are rather cute, Hoseok is impressed by the genes.

At his words, Yoongis posture softens, his glare disappears. He shrugs his shoulders. “Hello. It’s nice to meet you. Thank you for taking care of Jungkook.” He bows back, finally. Hoseok almost faints at hearing this voice – it feels like a blanket wraps around him, warm and cozy.

After a second which he needs to steel himself, to not just break out in coos and try to ask for Yoongis hand in marriage, Hoseok smiles and answers. “It’s no problem. And it’s very nice to meet you too.”

Jungkook narrows his eyes at him. Hoseok ignores that, and continues to look at Yoongi. Who somehow manages to look at his face while avoiding his eyes completely. Cute.

“Whaaa, is that the famous brother?!”

They all turn. A young woman stands next to them, pretty as well. Maybe it’s the club. Yoongi nods. “This is Jungkook. And his friend Hoseok.” She nods at them. “This is Jieun, she’s the club’s president.”

Jieun nods, and steps closer to Jungkook. “And as the president, I need to convey my thanks.” Jungkook, very confused, takes the hand she forwards. “Your brother is the best! He does mean spreadsheets, without him this would have been a disaster but he keeps us all organized and focused. I can’t thank you enough for being gay.”

Hoseok immediately folds in half laughing.

A few minutes later they’re walking away. They’ve signed up, Jieun squeezed Jungkooks cheeks and called him adorable, Hoseok is looking forward very, very much to this new part of his life. He just saw Yoongi blush, and giggle, and tuck one strand of his mid-length hair behind his ear. He is an angel, surely. As they continue walking, Hoseok turns to interrogate Jungkook a little more.

“What’s he studying?”

“He’s going to be a therapist. He still has two years here.”

A pretty, kind, and smart man? Hoseok is swooning. He always thought he wouldn’t be pathetic for a man, but Yoongi is taking the wind out of his sails. He’d beg, just to be able to look at him for another minute. “What does he want to specialize in?”

“Working with Youth.” Jungkook grins, throws a look back but the booth isn’t visible anymore. (Hoseok already checked.) “It’s tough, but he can do it.”

“And I want to do him,” Hoseok sighs.

“Hyung!”

“Oops?”

Shaking his head, Jungkook takes a step away from Hoseok. “You know, anyone else I would actively keep away from him by now.”

“But you want me in your family?” Hoseok puts both hands beneath his chin in a flower pose and grins prettily.

Jungkook laughs, shakes his head. “You’re ridiculous. But honestly, he really isn’t queer, so…”

“How do you know? Has he explicitly told you he’s straight?”

“No.” Jungkook shrugs. “But I think he would have come out to me when I did, right?”

Hoseok pouts. “Maybe he doesn’t know?”

“You’re not going to leave it until you tried, will you?”, Jungkook asks, sounding like he’ll admit defeat.

“A little flirting has never hurt anyone,” Hoseok declares happily. It was obvious how much Jungkook means to Yoongi, and without his approval he won’t get far. “Don’t worry Kookie, if he rejects me I’ll leave him alone.”

“Oka-“

“And go into a mourning period for the rest of my life. I’ll only wear black. I won’t listen to music, won’t speak a word. You don’t get it but I need to make him understand just how pretty he is. Without words.”

“Oh god, shut up.”

🎀

With Yoongis appearance in Hoseoks life, his priorities have shifted. Namely, everything else went down a number and Yoongi occupies place one. So at the first meeting of the LBTQ+ Club on the next Friday, he’s wearing one of his best outfits. He did try to get Yoongis favourite color, brand or whatever from Jungkook but only received a ‘while I’m not stopping you I am not supporting you either’.

So, he’s in brown trousers, a light black sweater hanging delicately off his shoulder, showing off a hint of collarbones. A watch sits on his wrist, his skin is glowing with his perfected skincare routine, his hair is freshly cut and artfully tousled. Jungkook took one look at him and began to shake his head for five whole minutes. Hoseok is not regretting anything, he’s already earned more than a few double takes and unsubtle glances. They’re meeting in one of the lecture halls, there’ll be some introduction of the organizers and a Q&A.

Jungkook and Hoseok sit down right in the front. On Hoseoks insistence. While Jungkook judges him for it, someone else sits in the same row. Jungkook, whose every emotion sits on his face, obviously finds him hot and says something unintelligible about his thighs. Hoseok teases him until Yoongi, Jieun and a few others get on the little stage and he’s thoroughly distracted by Yoongi in ripped jeans.

During the whole introduction, Hoseok barely listens since he’s busy glancing at Yoongi. He does pay rapt attention when Yoongi introduces himself, but learns nothing new. They’re all just saying their names, ages and tasks within the club after all. But then the Q&A begins, and Hoseok can’t help himself.

Jieun is the one reading the notes, any one of them answers. There are general questions about the club, meeting times, participation, wishes for activities like book exchanges. Finally, Jieun picks up Hoseoks little note.

“Oh. It says Min Yoongi on the back,” she says, bewildered. It’s the first (and surely only) one addressed. Hoseoks heart beats in anticipation while the note is passed towards Yoongi in the middle. He looks confused as well, but not apprehensive.

Only when he opens the note and reads, his face suddenly freezes. There’s no change in expression, but his cheeks begin to turn absolutely red. The guy next to him leans over, the whole room is silent in anticipation. Hoseok watches with barely concealed excitement as he begins to read out loud.

“Respectfully, you are very, very, very, very, very cute!” He hesitates, then begins to giggle. “Ooookay, someone is shooting their shot.”

The rest of the people on stage begin to giggle, the room joins. Jungkook turns towards Hoseok in slow-motion, glaring. Hoseok does his best to look absolutely innocent, while keeping Yoongi in the corner of his eyes. He’s now pocketing the little note instead of throwing it in the little box with the rest of them. Still adorably red.

“Hyung.”

Jieun takes pity on Yoongi and picks out the next note. It’s a normal question. Hoseok blinks at Jungkook happily.

“Was that you?”

“Do you really want to know?”, Hoseok questions. On stage, Yoongi is shuffling his feet, his eyes flitting around the crowd. He knows it was one of them.

Jungkook sighs. “That’s already answer enough. Uff.”

Yoongis eyes, while searching the crowd, fall onto them. Hoseok immediately gives him two thumbs-up and grins widely. Jungkook waves after a second as well, and Yoongi ducks his head a little, but he looks happy. Grinning down at the floor. Hoseok lowers his hands again.

“He is always so protective, especially when he thought I was dating someone,” Jungkook laments, “I was so annoyed. And now I understand him.”

“Yah, I’m harmless,” Hoseok assures him, putting an arm around his shoulder.

“You are actively lusting after him.”

Hoseok shrugs his shoulders. He won’t deny it. “He's a grown man. A very hot one.”

“But- but-“

“Worry about your own crush,” Hoseok interrupts. He leans over Jungkook and waves towards the guy sitting there, whose legs Jungkook admired so fervently earlier. “Hey! What’s your name? I’m Hoseok,” he whispers over, ignoring Jungkook tugging him back in horror – he’s blushing about as bad as Yoongi earlier now. Cute.

“Namjoon”, the guy answers. He’s smiling, and dimples pop in his cheeks.

Jungkook whimpers quietly. Hoseok supresses a giggle. That boy needs all the help he can give. “This is Jungkook! Wanna hang out later with us?”

🎀

A few weeks later, Hoseok has come far – unlike Jungkook. The younger is still blushing like a maiden whenever they meet Namjoon in the hallway and barely dares to text him unless Hoseok encourages him. Namjoon is certainly interested back, so he doesn’t worry about them.

But Hoseok and Yoongi are closer already. They’ve all hung out after the meeting – Hoseok, Jungkook, Namjoon and Yoongi. He smartly made them all compare schedules so they could meet up – particularly paying attention to Yoongi. Since then, Hoseok has met with Yoongi a couple times for lunch. And study time, in between courses or afterwards. They’ll sit in the library together, working through their respective course load.

Yoongi always puts on his glasses for that. Needless to say, Hoseok is very unproductive.

During one of those meet-ups, Yoongi is looking for a little note he made, pulling stuff out of his jacket pockets – tissues, a pencil, bubble gums, some fidget toy that is surely for Jungkook, a little cash. And the note.

Hoseok takes it in hand, unfolds it. His own handwriting greets him. Maybe it’s a sign, that after all this time the note showed back up when they were alone like this. Until now, Hoseok hasn’t really flirted with Yoongi, only befriended him like he would normally. (With a little more staring but alas he did his best.) But it may be time to talk about it. Hoseok doesn’t want it to be a secret like it is now, he almost feels like he’s doing something behind Yoongis back. Not that he’s doing anything at all besides falling deeper and deeper into his feelings.

“What did you think about this?”

Yoongi looks up from pulling another tissue and the note he was looking for out of his jeans pocket. He squints at first, clueless. Then he blushes.

“Oh god, I was so flustered,” he says. “I mean it was kind of wild. But it’s a compliment, and I don’t think it was meant like, in a creepy way.”

Hoseok takes a deep breath. That’s good. Now he has to take the next step. And if Yoongi rejects him now, he’ll be devastated. He still wants to be friends, but it would hurt – Yoongi is just so perfect. Meeting the man behind the visual only furthered Hoseok infatuation.

“I’m glad I didn’t offend you.”

“No it- what?!” Yoongi begins to blush. “That- you? Was? What?”

Hoseok giggles awkwardly. “Yeah, it was me. I’m sorry for not telling earlier.”

“I- It’s okay?” Yoongis eyes flit between the note and Hoseoks face. He doesn’t seem uncomfortable, but a little nervous. Understandable.

Hoseok decides to explain a little. “Actually, I’ve thought that the moment I saw you by that booth. Jungkook scolded me cause I just unknowingly told him his brother is the prettiest person I’ve ever seen.”

“I’m what?”

“The prettiest person I’ve ever seen.”

Yoongi stares. Maybe it’s the longest they’ve ever had eye contact. Hoseok drinks in every detail of his face.

“Anyway. I wanted to get to know you a little more, but it’s been a while since we met,” Hoseok continues, “I’d love to get to know you more… romantically. Is that something you’re willing to explore? Or rather not? I won’t be weird about it, I swear.”

Obviously flustered once more, Yoongi stutters a little. “I don’t know? I mean- I- I do like you, but like. I think I’m straight.”

“You think?”, Hoseok repeats, raising his eyebrows.

Yoongi helplessly shrugs.

“Care to find out?”

“Find out?” Yoongi thinks for a moment, hesitating, “I don’t think that’s fair for you. I don’t even know if I could like you like that at all. You’re not some experiment, or adventure for me.”

“Let that be my worry. Do you trust me?”

“Yes?”

Hoseok shakes his head playfully. “I’m basically a stranger, be more careful,” he scolds. Yoongi clicks his tongue but he has to snort too. “Don’t think, just feel.”

“Huh?” By the time the confused noise has left Yoongis mouth, Hoseok has already leaned in. His hands cup Yoongi cheek, so soft and warm, rosy pink. Hoseok suppresses a squeal, this is a dream come true. Yoongi easily lets himself be pulled closer until they’re both leaning across the table. Hoseok gets closer and closer, until he can’t see Yoongi as a whole anymore, only the little parts right in front of his eyes.

He tilts his head, purses his lips. Yoongi does the same and nudges his head a little forward. His eyes fall closed. He goes in for a kiss.

And Hoseok draws back again quickly. With a giggle, he boops Yoongis nose with a finger.

Startled, the other opens his eyes and leans back again, pouting when he understands what happened.

“Sooooo,” Hoseok begins cheekily, “I’m no mind-reader, I can only tell what it looked like from outside. How did it feel for you?”

Yoongi opens his mouth, closes it again. Then he tilts his head a little, looks at Hoseoks chin with a small grin. “Like my hands right above the piano tiles, just that moment of anticipation before there’s any sound.”

“oh.” Now Hoseoks then flustered one. He did not think Yoongi would suddenly say something like that. But he powers through it, ignores the way his own cheeks feel warmed. “Can I take you on a date then?”

For a moment, Hoseok feels exactly what Yoongi described: hands above the piano, poised ready for any sound. Just that he doesn’t know if it’ll sound good or bad. His heart beats quickly, his toes curl. Then Yoongi nods quickly. He looks just as pretty as the melody suddenly playing in Hoseoks heart.

🎀

The first event the club does, is movie night. A collaboration with the film club, which shows movies cheap inside a lecture hall every week. Hoseok, whose classes ran late today, hurries into the room. It’s still half an hour before the film starts, but he knows his boyfriend will already be there. Today they show Pride, and he made it clear he absolutely loves that movie.

As expected, he’s seated already to watch the movie. Next to him is Jungkook. Also expected.

Hoseok walks up the stairs and into their row, already smiling. Until he meets Jungkooks outstretched legs and a glare.

He can’t help a giggle. “You’re glaring the exact same way Yoongi-Hyung did when we met.”

Jungkooks eyes soften, but he does manage to stop the grin spreading on his face. But Hoseok’s already seen the beginning of it, he won’t be fooled. Yoongi for his part snorts. “I thought you might be dating Jungkook, I had to be intimidating.”

“And you are dating my brother,” Jungkook huffs.

Hoseok smiles dreamily. Just hearing that makes him float. Yoongi is… he’s just perfect. Just seeing him for a moment makes the whole day better. “Yes. I’ve never been happier. Hey sweetheart!”

Predictably, Yoongi begins to giggle and blush. They’ve only been on two dates, Hoseok has barely gotten to kiss him chastely and the longest time they’ve spent together was to study in the library. During that time Hoseok is forbidden to do basically anything because he’s ‘too distracting’. Yoongi shouldn’t talk on that, his whole existence is distracting Hoseok.

Yoongi also declared himself tentatively bisexual and definitely interested in Hoseok. So, all in all, he’s winning.

He’s not winning anything physical against Jungkook though, whose knees still prevent him from greeting Yoongi with a hug, or sitting next to him. “You’re not going to let me through?”

“No.”

Hoseok sits down, Jungkook now in their middle. Yoongi leans forward, their eyes meet. When Hoseok reaches out, Jungkook bats his hand away. Well.

Yoongi suddenly gets up a little, spots Namjoon next to another friend a few rows behind them. “Hey Namjoon! Can Jungkookie sit with you?”

“Oh, hey! Jungkook! Of course, I didn’t even see you!”, Namjoon happily agrees. He’s also blushing a little.

Jungkook grunts unhappily, but begins to pick up his jacket and backpack immediately. “Why would do you that!?”

“Because you have a crush,” Hoseok whispers back happily. “Now go and stare at his thighs from up close.”

With a feral hiss in his direction, Jungkook leaves. Yoongi smiles fondly after his brother while Hoseok immediately takes his place.

“Did you give your brother away so we can make out in a dark lecture hall?”, Hoseok asks with wiggling eyebrows. They both already know he didn’t, but it won’t hurt to ask. “I’m down.”

“Definitely not.” Yoongi shakes his head laughing. “This movie is a masterpiece. We’re going to watch it and you’re going to like it. If you don’t cry by the end we’ll also break up because that’s a sure sign you’re emotionally unavailable.”

Hoseok salutes. “Ay ay captain.”

“I do want to hold your hand.” Before Yoongi has even finished speaking, Hoseok has already reached out for him. He brings their entwined fingers up to his mouth and presses a kiss to Yoongis knuckles, keeping their hands in his lap afterwards. Yoongi leans closer until his head meets Hoseoks shoulder. Simultaneously, they squeeze their hands. Hoseok chuckles, so in love he almost misses the beginning of the movie.
