Sonar wanted take out and take out is what he'd get.
Their usual Chinese place was a couple blocks away, often Robert's 'I'm too depressed to cook and need to walk Beef anyway' spot before Sonar accompanied them. Now it was the 'Let's eat here because one of us is depressed and the other can cook but not food'. And Beef gets walkies but he didn't want to go today, too comfortable in Sonar's lap to move.
Honestly, it surprised Robert that Sonar didn't want to go. Usually, the bat hybrid loved going anywhere with Robert. But, today, Sonar had kissed him goodbye and left it at that.
Needless to say, Robert made it a quick pick up.
It was a brisk walk to the Chinese place and back, there was a small wait to get their order, but Robert thought he made good time. Twenty, maybe twenty-five minutes, and Robert was heading inside his apartment.
"Hey, Victor, I–" Robert paused. "Oh."
A giant, sleepy bat head lifted from Robert's bed. At some point in the last half hour, Sonar had completely transformed from his usual self to full bat monster. Thankfully, instead of the bloodthirsty brat, it was a sleepy little guy who reached out for attention.
Well, that explained everything.
Robert hoped Sonar wasn't alone like this for long. He didn't like leaving Sonar in this state, knowing it could be painful both mentally and physically, and difficult to control. Robert was always willing to help, able to help, and he never wanted Sonar to feel insignificant.
Robert smiled as gently as he could, kicking off his shoes and bringing over food. "Hey, Victor..."
Sonar snapped his jaws, a little annoyed.
"I know, I know, but, as a peace offering, I brought our takeout," Robert kissed Sonar's head as he sat down. He's very thankful Blazer bought him a king bed, even though it took up half his apartment now. It just meant Sonar was more comfortable in big bat form. "Oh, hi, Beef, are you comfortable?"
Beef stuck his head out from under Sonar's arm, all sleepy too. Robert now realized that Beef stayed behind to make sure Sonar was okay, able to smell the sudden shift minutes before it happened. What a good boy. Beef could have treats. Many, in fact.
"Aaaww," Robert set out all their food like a shitty picnic, taking his own with a plastic fork. "There we go, eat up."
Sonar shuffled a bit, resting his head against Robert's lap. He stuck his tongue out to take a piece of orange chicken, then completely let go of his weight. Beef was also gifted an orange chicken before falling back asleep, tucked under Sonar's arm.
Robert yawned, eating slowly as he fluffed up Sonar's fur. Gosh, it was so soft. "Wanna watch a movie, big guy?"
"Mmph..." Sonar huffed, though accepted the piece of chicken Robert offered him.
"Okay, so, what do you want to watch?" Robert grabbed his phone and started searching. "The Godfather?"
"Mmm..." Not interested.
"What about La La Land?"
Sonar huffed.
"Frankenstein has a new movie by Guillermo del Toro?"
That made Sonar's ears perked up.
"It's not one for one with the book but it's a solid adaptation," Robert hummed when he found it and propped up his phone on his thigh. "There."
Sonar grumbled a little, trying to force more of his snoot into Robert's laps. He didn't quit until his entire head was hidden, ears flat against the thinner but still sculpted thighs. Then, the beast sighed in content, even as Robert rolled his eyes with amusement. He didn't care about anything else but being held, occasionally snuffing his food, and that everything was okay.
The movie went by without an issue, although Robert was the only one watching, and their shitty little bed picnic had concluded with full bellies and no leftovers. For once. Robert stretched his hands high above his head, his shirt riding up and grabbing Sonar's attention.
The bat beast nosed at the newly exposed flesh, causing Robert to quietly laugh. Sonar nipped at the skin, grumbling about being an object of amusement, but otherwise satisfied. This was good. Robert was good.
"Alright, Victor, I gotta throw stuff away," Robert attempted to get up, but Sonar refused to let him. "Victor, I'm not sleeping among our trash–"
Sonar snorted, refusing to move. Robert should stay. They can take care of everything and the morning. It's cuddle time now.
"Well..." Robert sighed, shuffling to get comfortable. Once properly laying down, Robert scritched Sonar's cheeks and the spots around his ears, knowing they were Sonar's favorites. "Fine, you've convinced me."
Sonar hummed, satisfied.
Robert kissed Sonar's nose, smiling. He loved this big big baby. He'd love to stay like this every night, monstrous form or Sonar's usual form. Either way, Robert was relaxed, cuddling with his lovely boyfriend.
