Summary
“He wanted to see me. He missed me. He was just kissing me better.”
Then his Dad is crossing the threshold into Will’s room and his space and flinging him bodily back down on the bed. “Kissing a boy makes you a fag. Are you a fag, boy?”
Will shakes his head, too frightened to speak. The walls are closing in on him again, and there are black spots in his vision. The comforter feels rough beneath his fingers, and he could swear the whole bed is shaking with him. He doesn’t know what a fag is, but he doesn’t want to be one if it makes his Dad angry.
“You tell him never to fucking do that again. You push him away if he tries, you hear me? You fucking punch him.” And Will nods, anything to speed his Dad’s departure from his room.
He can tell Mike not to kiss him; he can follow through with that. But if he ever tries again Will won’t be pushing him away. Whatever a fag is, it can’t compete with the feeling of Mike’s lips on his; like Will is kissing the universe.
