Chapter Text
It's not hard to notice the way Pomni looks Jax.
There's a curiosity there. Like he's the most interesting person around.
They sat at the table, for breakfast, as they did most mornings. Zooble and Gangle chatted across from her, Kinger was shaping his pancakes into a butterfly, and Pomni was.. watching Jax. Again.
Jax wasn't doing much, just staring at his plate. Honestly, Ragatha almost worried about him. Almost. He had been quieter since the gun adventure, but maybe that was for the best, maybe he didn't deserve her worry. He most definitely didn't deserve Pomni's worry.
Gangle invited Zooble to draw together, and not long after, Jax followed. Ragatha sighed in annoyance as he left, already expecting the crash of Gangle's mask that followed.
Pomni started to get up too, but Ragatha forced herself to be courageous and confront her friend(?). "Pomni!" She said, a little too loudly, "Wa-Wait, I was hoping we could talk.."
"Oh!" Pomni responded, dragging her eyes away from where the other three had just gone, "Oh okay, what's up, Ragatha?"
Ragatha fiddled with her plush hands. "I just wanted to.. I guess its not really my place, but.."
"What's going on?" Pomni stepped closer and hesitantly took a seat near her.
Ragatha sighed, "I've noticed you've been watching Jax pretty closely lately." She stared into Pomni's pinwheel eyes nervously.
"Oh! Haha.." Pomni's eyes widened, "No, it's not like that! I mean, I don't have a crush on him, if that's what you're saying!"
"No," Ragatha hummed, "I didn't think exactly that. I don't know what is going on between you two, that's why I'm asking,"
Before Pomni could respond, Ragatha continued, "And why I'm warning you."
"Warning me?" Pomni gave her a weird look, part way between annoyance and confusion.
"What?" Pomni scoffed, "I'm not a kid, Ragatha, do you think I'm going to do something stupid?"
Ragatha shook her head quickly and got to her feet, "No! He's just Jax! I think if you show him any amount of attention he'll do his best to get a laugh out of it. He will hurt you any way he possibly can."
"I'm not your responsibility, Ragatha," Pomni said seriously. She also stood, and sighed, "I'm just curious, okay? I want to know why Jax acts like he does. So.. my watching is just me trying to figure him out, okay?"
"You-" Ragatha thought for a moment. Pomni was right. Kinger was right too. Ragatha wasn't responsible for her friend. "You're right, Pomni. I trust you."
Pomni gave her a small smile, said a quiet thanks, and started to walk away.
"B-but! If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here, okay?" Ragatha called finally.
