Life Sentences

Summary:

“Six years. You think this is more of a life sentence than a marriage.”

Nigel and Patrick reflect (and relax) on 6 years of marriage.

Notes:

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a fic. This one has just been chilling in my notes app for months. Originally made it for a piece of fanart I made.

Work Text:

“Six years. You think this is more of a life sentence than a marriage.” Patrick looked up, his eyes shining in the sunlight as he saw the photo.

“Out of all the life sentences I could’ve gotten, I’m just happy it’s with you.” Nigel chuckled as he leaned closer to Patrick. “When you really think about it, they’re the same thing. Just a life sentence of happiness.”

Patrick couldn’t disagree with that, “These have been the best years of my life.”

Nigel smiled as the words left his mouth, “For me as well.” He turned to face him, “I have a surprise for you after work.”

“What? A relaxing evening?” He replied sarcastically, “with a kid running around? Please.”

Nigel laughed, “You fail to remember that I think ahead. Rodentia has offered to take Jake after school! The evening to all to ourselves.”

“I’ve never seen you so happy to not see our son.Patrick smirked.

“You know that’s not what I mean!” Nigel scoffed, “But this is something you will like. The whole evening, it’ll just be the two of us. No going out. I don’t like it as much, but we can even order takeout if you’d like. We can finally finish that catalog of documentaries we've been meaning to watch.” He reached over, his hand grazing over Patrick’s. He leaned over to whisper into Patrick’s ear, “Besides, gives us enough alone time to do what you must desire.”

Patrick’s cheeks flushed, slapping Nigel’s hand away, “How scandalous.”

Nigel laughed as he pulled away, “I only jest. But this evening will be all about us, Patty-Cake.”

Patrick rolled his eyes, “Is it really about us when you use that nickname?”

“For my joy, yes.” He pressed a soft kiss on Patrick’s cheek, “I love you, Patrick.”

Patrick exhaled, “I love you too, Nigel.”
