Chapter 1: late night at the library

Chapter Text

At first, Basil thought that this night was like any other he had already lived through. Just some books, creaking of the old wooden floor, camomile tea and himself. Alone. He sighed when the sun hid and his hands closed the library from the inside. Today was his night duty, like in every other week.
He returned to his desk, sliding to his armchair. While reaching for the book his eyes spotted a little piece of paper on the floor. Basil stood up with a sigh to throw away this litter. But when he looked at it, he just smiled. On the paper was neatly written 'Ha-Yoon's radio station!' in funny cursive. Ah yes, this funny girl. The one who has been occupying a boy's mind for over five months.
She was his sunshine, the one and only. If she was the Rose, he would be the Little Prince. He put the paper again on the door, after which was the girl's station. He was there, a few times even. It was his favorite place in the whole library, she was there all the time after all. But he would never come in without the invitation - that would be more than rude. It's her private space, after all.
But he couldn't resist just to take a chance and peek inside. Everything was so still and nearly dead without her. He liked to imagine that she was there, with him, during his night shifts. He would definitely be less alone.
Don't get me wrong - books are great companions and Basil knows that - but this time. . . is different.
He craved her attention and presence. she could make everything better, at least for him. But she didn't know. And she will never know. Why?
Well. . . Basil is very shy when it comes to confessions, he is scared that he wouldn't be able to handle the rejection. After all, he just wanted some love, right?

The hours passed, when he finally looked up at the clock. It was already 1am? Well, the books indeed manipulate time. Basil was about to take another sip of his tea, when he noticed that it's all already been drunk. In that case, he stood up and went straight to the little kitchen located at the back of the library. He made himself a cup of coffee, no sugar, milk. 'HY would not add the milk' he thought and smiled. She was in his mind even while making coffee, oh my poor pure lover boy. . . After he returned something was off. At first he wasn't able to say what was wrong, so he ignored his intuition and just started to read on.
Then he heard it. Someone was there with him. He was a little bit scared, of course. After all, it was the first time someone broke into his library. He closed the book quietly and reached for the 'emergency only' baseball bat. (The fact is, there's no definition of what an emergency is. So it could be used to fight the burglar, but as well just a Sunday chill with family and playing baseball could be one.) He lifted it over his head and went into the depths of the library.

Finding the intruder wasn't so hard. Actually, the intruder came to Basil right when he went past the first alley. Ready to hit them, Basil gripped the bad even tighter, but then-

'Yoon? What are you doing here?' Visibly surprised, the boy asked, seeing the love of his life right in front of him.
'Yo, Mintie boy.' She said, drunkenly.
Basil didn't like when Ha Yoon was drunk. It was very dangerous, especially for her. After all, who could know how she would act, when even it's impossible to guess when she is sober and right now she clearly wasn't sober at all. He sighed.
'Why are you drunk?'
'Me? Drunk? Never! I'm just . . .' she paused, trying to find a good excuse.
'You are drunk and don't even try to convince me that you're not.'
'. . . looking for a friend? oh you already said something, I'm sorry.' a short laugher left her mouth. 'okay, okay. maybe I am a little bit drunk. But hey, after all, I was at the party, how could I not drink there?'
'You. . . just sit here, okay?' Basil took her to his armchair and made her sit in it. 'I will make you some tea, okay? no, no coffee for you my dear.'

He was really worried about her health and in what state she is right now. What happened? Was that really a party? Maybe she was drinking alone and she doesn't want to say that aloud because that is really depressing?
Basil was buried so deep with his thoughts, that he didn't hear the girl, who snuck after him. She tilted her head while gazing on the boy. He was so pretty in her eyes, so perfect. She knew she would do everything for him, no exceptions. She would stand like that for much much longer if not the strange urge of sneezing. Just when she did, the boy's body shivered. Ha Yoon actually never saw him shivering, so it was a premiere of a great movie. After that he probably understood who was that, because he was wearing the 'tired one' face. She just hung her head and looked at him with puppy eyes.

'Hello there, honey.'
'Well, General Kenobi, you were supposed to stay in the chair, remember?'
'Yes, that's true, but how could I stay here when you are here all alone?'
Basil laughed at her last words. It was a painful laugh, but a necessary one.
'You are clearly drunk, let's go back to the main room. Shall we?' he said while putting his arm around her.

He pushed her again into the armchair with one hand, holding the cup in the other.

'and now, drink that.' he gave her the hot cup.

She obediently took the tea and put it against her lips, shoving it away in the next second.

'it's too hot, I can't.'

Basil just sighed while taking the mug from her hands. He put it closer to his lips and started blowing at it to cool it a little.
She was taken aback while seeing this. It was such a pure and cute thing, she just couldn't comprehend how much he cared about others.

'I want to kiss you.' She said, still gazing at his lips.

She nearly caused spilling all of the tea contained in Basil's hands. He looked at her, very confused. Of course, he wanted to say the same thing to her and he would love to do so. Unfortunately he couldn’t. One, she couldn’t know. Two, everything she says right now is made by the alcohol running through her veins. He stood up to put the mug aside. His face was red, he could feel it. He thanked the gods that his desk made it possible to not look at her while cooling down.

‘Ha Yoon, please stop it. You are really drunk and by that you don't mean what you are saying.’

He spoke softly, with a voice full of sadness. And as he turned back to look at the girl, he noticed that she was standing right behind him, looking tight at his eyes with solemnity.

‘But what if i mean what i am saying?’ She sounded oddly. . . sober.

Basil felt very uncomfortable. He wanted for this to be true, but he knew that it was impossible. Not for him, not with her.

‘Stop it. Now.’ He said with his eyes closed. He couldn’t look at her, that would just hurt too much.

He felt as she pushed him further and further with her palms. He didn’t object, he enjoyed this moment as much as he was able to. Unfortunately, the chair stood behind him, making him fall on it. The moment he felt her palms on his shoulders he opened his eyes. she was looking straight at him with this typical gaze of her. He felt her weight on his knees. Basil was sure that the girl was able to hear his beating heart, not only she was getting closer and closer, but also because he was so scared of what was going on. She took his glasses off and carefully put them on the desk. He felt paralyzed, not being able to even move one muscle in his body. She leaned closer and closer, moving her arms around his neck, making it impossible for him to run away. Ha Yoon kissed him passionately on the lips, closing her eyes carefully. She owned this moment and knew it so well. Her hand shyly dug into his soft, blond hair while he had no idea what he should do. Finally he put one of his hands on her waist, and the other one on her back. She separated for a sec, just to smirk and say proudly right to his ear

‘Did you really think I was joking?’
