Summary
Dauntless initiate Sara Sumner is far more interested in her trainer Eric than she should be, but must accept that anything more than friendship between them is strictly off-limits until she can gain an official place in her faction of choice. As she continues her initiation, revelations about Eric’s past soon come to light, and Sara learns why he keeps himself closed off from others, hiding behind his reputation as a harsh and unforgiving leader.
When the time finally comes for them to embark on a tentative relationship, Sara and Eric are immediately forced to contend with the head of Erudite, Jeanine, whose sinister plot to seek out and destroy Divergents involves recruiting Eric to the cause.
