Proposal (for shits and giggles)

Summary:

AlHaitham proposes, that’s pretty much it.

Work Text:

Holy archons..

Kaveh’s face dropped, practically melted, and not because of the ongoing heat wave in Sumeru. And no, not because he had realized that he was overdue on his rent (he came to this realization much earlier in the morning).

It was because there he was, in the center of the House of Daena, with Alhaitham down on one knee. In his hands he held the most gorgeous ring he’d ever lay his eyes on; it was comprised of an elegant gold band, with a breathtaking ruby gem to match his eyes’ particular shade.

“Kaveh,” the scholar began. The House was silent by now, and he continued, “upon our first encounter, one could describe your demeanor and knowledge as oddly rudimentary.”

Kaveh scoffs. Of course, it wouldn’t be Alhaitham’s proposal without some underlying quip.

“However, over the last decade, I have taken note of our exponential growth in terms of not just communication, but compatibility and security amongst one another. Kaveh, when we first engaged in this… ongoing romantic endeavor” He couldn’t have just said relationship? “I had only agreed because of financial benefit and efficiency, because of logic and rationale. Gradually, my judgment became ambiguous, most notably as it began to feature emotion. Now, I kneel before you, exposing all that runs through not only my cerebrum, but more surprisingly, my heart, will you reciprocate my everlasting affection for you and uh..”

His face by now was flushed with a baby pink, eyes sharp in concentration, yet narrow in trepidation. The tension was heavy in the air, as Kaveh held his breath, and citizens watching nearby did too.

“Well, will you marry me, senior?”

YES?!?!

“YES!” The blond vivaciously exclaims, his arms flailing wildly as he beckons the man over for a warm embrace. The House erupts into a cacophony of applause, tears, and celebration, and he just knows that they’ll never live this down.

“You’ve got some insane balls to pull something like this off Alhaitham,” Kaveh whispered in his ear once they were closer in proximity. Alhaitham chuckles, grins at that, and Kaveh can’t help but relish it.

“I warned you countless times; I always go through with my plans, even if it’s what you would call a ‘dare’” Kaveh’s heart stopped for a second or two.

“Are we actually getting married though?”

“I don’t know, is the sky blue?” Teal eyes bore into his, and now Kaveh regretted even asking. Alhaitham’s voice dropped nearly half an octave, leveled and almost seductive, “I thought you were more knowledgeable than this, senior,”

The architect sighed at the sarcastic comment and dragged the man out of the chaotic building, partially out of frustration, but predominantly because of the growing tent in his pants.
