Work Text:
“Bro, you’re going to make me motion sick if you keep pacing like that,” Sero told him, grabbing the electric blonde by his shoulders.
“Man, you don’t need to be so nervous. Jiro’s going to love it,” Kirishima offered.
“You’d be nervous in my situation too!” Kaminari shot back.
“I guess I can’t deny that,” Kirishima replied. Then his phone buzzed.
“Mina’s got Jiro distracted. We can go set up now.”
Sero, Kaminari, and Kirishima all headed outside. It was chilly, and a thin layer of snow covered the ground, But Denki still decided to do his confession in a clearing in the trees behind the dorms. The three boys set up strands of fairy lights in the trees, a small firepit in the middle of the clearing, and a pathway of lanterns that would lead Jiro there. Sero and Kirishima then had Kaminari practice his song out in the clearing.
“It’s sounding good man! Trust me, Jiro’s going to love this!” Kirishima encouraged.
When it was starting to get dark, Denki snuck back out to the clearing for one more practice, and so he’d already be there when Jiro arrived. Sero had promised to text him when Jiro was on her way, so he knew when to hide.
His heart began to race when his phone buzzed. A text from Sero, reading ‘She’s on the way!’ Denki hid behind a tree, making sure his guitar wasn’t sticking out from behind it. He took a deep breath and listened while Jiro’s footsteps came closer.
“Jiroooooooooo,” Mina prodded.
“What?” Jiro asked.
“There’s a surprise waiting for you outside,” Mina smirked.
Definitely not something Jiro expected. “A surprise… For me?”
“Yep, you just gotta follow the lanterns!” Mina told her.
Jiro listened, not really sure what was happening. She put on a coat and boots, then headed outside where she found the trail of lanterns.
She followed the soft glowing lights through the snow, and into the trees behind the dorms. She found herself in a clearing lined with fairy lights, and a crackling fire in the middle. The place seemed empty at first.
But then a guitar strum echoed through the trees. The music was a tune she hadn’t heard before. Then she heard a voice. A voice she knew well.
Kaminari stepped out from behind a tree, continuing his song. He walked over so he stood across from Jiro.
My heart skips a beat everytime you laugh
Everytime you smile
Everytime you talk
Every little thing that you do makes my heart
Skip a beat
The chorus was simple, yet catchy. Every lyric was sweet and genuine. Kyoka could feel herself tearing up ever so slightly as the song continued.
I want you to know
That I
Love you
The song ended. The lyrics sank into Jiro, leaving her speechless. How could someone like Kaminari have these kinds of feelings for her?
Kaminari was patient. He simply set his guitar down against a tree, and stepped closer to Jiro.
“Kyoka,” He started, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I hope you know that all of what I just sang is true. I understand if you don’t feel the same way about me, but I wanted you to know.”
Kyoka smiled. “How could I not feel the same way about you, Denki?”
Denki smiled back. “You really feel the same way?” he whispered.
“I do,” Kyoka nodded. “I love you too. You’re kind, funny… And you’re always there for me when I need it most. How could I not love you?”
Denki’s smile got wider. “Will you be my girlfriend, Kyoka?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
“I’m so lucky to have you,” Denki breathed, placing a hand on Kyoka’s cheek. Her skin was soft to the touch, and he gently brushed his thumb along it. He slowly got closer.
They were only a breath away from each other. And before long, that distance was closed as they pressed against the other’s lips.
The kiss was even better than either of them had imagined.
