Chapter Text
Ahh, Bikini Bottom, home to many different creatures and faces.
It truly is paradise under the sea.
And here is Jellyfish Fields, the natural habitat of the jellyfish and most known for its sport of Jelly Fishing.
Here comes a Jelly fisher now, let us see what he is up to.
~~~
“Baha! Bahaha!” Patrick laughed as he waved his net to and fro.
The Jellyfish buzzed just in front of him, out of reach of his net and gaining distance away as his stubby legs grew weary.
Patrick stopped to catch a breath, sweating profusely while he watched the Jellyfish slip away.
“Oh, barnacles!” Patrick swore.
After a minute of rest, he continued to wander the fields in search of more Jellyfish to capture. While he scanned the surrounding landscape, Patrick noticed a white shape moving across the green fields.
The big bushy tail at the end told him it was his friend, Sandy. Curious, Patrick forgot his hunt and approached the squirrel’s position to greet her. Her back was turned as he waddled up, so she didn’t notice him at first.
“Hi, Sandy!” Patrick waved.
Sandy glanced up, distracted from whatever she was writing on a clipboard.
“Oh, howdy, Pat!” Sandy smiled, “Yah out Jelly fishin’?”
“Uh-huh!” Patrick confirmed, “What are you doing? Looks important!”
“Ah’m doin’ a bit of research of the land here.” Sandy explained, waving her pencil around, “Like seafloor formation and why the Jellies call this their home. Just somethin’ fun ah thought ah’d do.”
“Ohh.” Patrick awed, then frowned, “I don’t get it.”
“No worries.” Sandy giggled, “Y’know, that reminds me, ah’ve got someone ah’d like you to meet, Patrick. Can yah stop by my dome later today?”
“Yeah!” Patrick nodded enthusiastically, “I wanna meet them!”
“Mighty fine attitude.” Sandy smirked, “Okay, ah’ll be back this evenin’, so come by then.”
Patrick entered the oxygen filled dome that evening with his excitement boiling over. He gazed over the empty space, the water in his helmet sloshing as he whipped around and eventually spotted Sandy and a pink figure standing under the giant tree that towered over the middle of the property.
He waddled up, Sandy waving at him as she noticed Patrick’s wobbly approach. As he came up, Patrick got a better look at the pink figure standing next to his friend. She looked almost like a seahorse, except she was bright pink with a darker pink curly mane that tipped over her head.
“Glad yah could make it, Patrick.” Sandy welcomed, then gestured to the strange creature next to her, “This is my new roommate, Pinkie Pie! Pinkie, this is mah friend, Patrick.”
“Hi!” Pinkie smiled, “You’re pink just like me!”
“Bahaha, yeah!” Patrick agreed, “But I’m a starfish. What are you? Are you like Sandy?”
“Nuh-uh.” Pinkie shook her head, mane flicking as her head turned, “I’m a pony!”
“Ooohh.” Patrick pretended to understand what that was, “Cooool!”
“I found her wandering around outside mah dome a few days ago.” Sandy recalled, “I could tell she was a land critter, ‘cause she was holdin’ her breath and her face was real blue.”
“Yep!” Pinkie confirmed, “I don’t even remember how I got here.”
“Just how long were yah holding yer breath, gurl?” Sandy asked.
“Uhhh, maybe about… five hours?” Pinkie guessed.
“Yah can hold yer breath for five hours!?” Sandy sounded impressed.
Pinkie tapped a hoof on her muzzle as she thought about it.
“Nope!”
Sandy blinked then shook her head disapprovingly.
“Well, anywho, she’s gonna be stayin’ with me ‘till I can figure out how to get her home.” Sandy turned back to Patrick, “Pinkie says she comes from this place called Equestria, but it doesn’t ring any bells for meh.”
“Oh, oh, I can help find her home!” Patrick volunteered.
Sandy grimaced and waved her paws in denial.
“Thanks, but it ain’t what I need.” Sandy politely declined, “Ah was just hopin’ yah could keep her some company while I worked. Yah both can never seem to sit still, so this is perfect!”
“Okay!” Patrick nodded, “Can I take her Jelly fishing?”
“Uhm, ah haven’t made anything that would allow her to go outside…” Sandy pondered, “Gimme just a sec, ah’ll rig somethin’ up real quick.”
Sandy returned to her tree house for a few minutes, leaving Patrick and Pinkie to play catch, leapfrog and several other games. They were in the middle of pat-a-cake once Sandy returned with a device similar to Patrick’s helmet.
“Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake…” Pinkie sung as her hooves patted Patrick’s nubs.
“Sorry for the wait, ya’ll.” Sandy finally appeared, a round glass helmet in her paws.
“Hey, that kinda looks like your suit, Sandy!” Patrick pointed.
“Right you are, Pat.” Sandy verified, “It’ll let Pinkie breathe while wandering outside with yah.”
Sandy approached Pinkie Pie and knelt down, fastening the helmet over her head and fighting to tuck her puffy mane inside it. Once on, Sandy pressed a button and the rubbery bottom of the device contracted, putting an airtight seal around Pinkie’s neck.
“There yah are.” Sandy announced, “Now yah can go outside the dome safely.”
“This feels weird.” Pinkie giggled, “I’m like a spaceman!”
“Let’s go Jelly fishing, let’s go Jelly fishing!” Patrick impatiently begged.
“A’right, don’t keep Pat waitin’.” Sandy laughed, “Come back before dark now, ya’hear?”
Pinkie and Patrick said their farewells and left the glass dome, Patrick popping the bowl off his head once outside and breathing in the fresh water. Pinkie matched his deep breath, although she only inhaled the oxygen from the glass encasing her head.
Patrick directed them to Jellyfish Fields, excited to show his new friend the art of Jelly fishing. They chatted on the way, Patrick expressing his disappointment about his best friend not being able to come with since he was working.
“Sandy kinda reminds me of my friend Applejack with the way she talks.” Pinkie blabbered, “But if she was as smart as Twilight! She’s so cool.”
“Yeah, she makes a lot of cool things.” Patrick matched her blabbering, “One time, she made this huge rocket ship and my friend and I thought we drove it to the moon, so we started capturing aliens but… they actually weren’t aliens and we weren’t on the moon…”
“Huh.” Pinkie hummed, “Sounds like fun!”
“It was!”
They continued to blabber until finally arriving at the Jellyfish Fields. Patrick pulled out two nets and handed one to Pinkie. She attempted to bite at the handle, but the glass prevented her from holding it in her mouth.
“Dang it.” Pinkie pouted.
“Can you hold it in your hands?” Patrick questioned, “Just firmly grasp it.”
“My hands?” Pinkie glanced down at herself, “I have hooves. But I can try!”
Pinkie stood on her hind legs and gripped the net in both hooves. Patrick showed her how to chase Jellyfish, but Pinkie couldn’t run and hold the net in her hooves at the same time. After some trial and error, she got the idea to hide behind a rock and ambush a Jellyfish.
Patrick and Pinkie found an outcrop of boulders and waited behind them patiently for a Jellyfish to pass. They didn’t have to wait long as a Jellyfish came buzzing by. Pinkie shot out, net in hooves as she leapt on her hind legs and swiped the unsuspecting Jelly out of the air.
“I caught it, I caught it!” Pinkie screeched in celebration, her helmet vibrating from her thrill.
“Yaaay!” Patrick shared the achievement, both of them hopping up and down as they laughed.
“So what do I do with it?” Pinkie wondered, “Do I eat it?”
Pinkie stuck her head into the net, attempting to gnaw at the Jellyfish only for the helmet to once again stop her.
“No, Pinkie!” Patrick panicked, “You’re supposed to let it go!”
“Oh.” Pinkie realized, slightly embarrassed.
She reached around the net from the other side and pushed the Jellyfish out. The Jelly angrily buzzed around as it got free, swimming around Pinkie’s head.
“Sorry.” Pinkie apologized, “You’re free now, Mr. Jelly!”
The Jellyfish swam down to her, raise a tentacle, and zapped her on the chest fur before buzzing off. Pinkie yelped, tears of pain slipping down her cheeks as she was caught off-guard.
“A-Are you okay?!” Patrick gasped, stepping forward in case she needed help.
“Rude.” Pinkie sniffed, blinking away the tears in her eyes.
Pinkie looked to Patrick, then burst out into a giggle fit as she failed to contain how much fun she was having. Patrick joined in the laughter, relieved she wasn’t hurt.
“This is so much fun!” Pinkie beamed, bouncing on her hooves as her tail happily flicked.
“Yea!” Patrick roared, “Let’s be friends forever!”
Patrick scooped Pinkie up into his arms, hugging the pink pony tightly as they shared their laughs. Pinkie’s first day in Bikini Bottom was just one of many more fun times to come.
