Superman became Superman when a newspaper plastered its front page with the bold letters, "I SPENT THE NIGHT WITH SUPERMAN." Oh, sure, other papers had run stories—how couldn't they? A man who could fly? A man who could beat back an extraterrestrial animal? A man who saved lives as easy as he tapped his subway card or put on his shoes, that made headlines. But there was nothing quite like that one day, when that one reporter—the plucky one, what was her name again?—wrote a tell-all about the hope of humankind, then used his own words to spin that headline. How scandalous!
