sweet dreams

Summary:

As much as Ominis hated to disturb the cosy quiet, duty got the better of him.

“Sebastian. Your alarm went off ten minutes ago. You’ve got a lecture.”

“That was my cuddle alarm,” Sebastian mumbled into the back of Ominis’s neck.

Despite his tiredness, Ominis perked up a little.

“Your… cuddle alarm?”

“Mhm.” Sebastian sounded as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. “I always set my alarm fifteen minutes earlier than I actually need to get up. So I’ve got time to cuddle you properly every morning.”

just a short drabble which i was inspired to write from a tumblr post lol

Work Text:

Ominis was dragged abruptly out of a warm, blissful dream by a sharp, insistent ringing. He shifted a little, realising at once that he was hot, almost uncomfortably so. As usual, Sebastian had turned over in his sleep and wrapped himself around Ominis, one arm firmly about his waist, a leg slung over his hip, holding him in a grip that might as well have been iron.

Ominis wriggled again.

“Sebastian,” he murmured, voice thick with sleep. “Your alarm.”

Sebastian let out a disgruntled noise and tightened his hold even further, his warm breath ghosting over the back of Ominis’s neck.

The alarm kept buzzing.

“Sebastian,” Ominis repeated, a little louder now. “Turn it off.”

With a put-upon groan, Sebastian loosened his octopus-like grip and rolled away. Ominis heard him fumbling across the bedside table until he found his phone and silenced it. Then Sebastian promptly sank back into the mattress, reached out blindly until he caught hold of Ominis again, and tugged him close. Ominis gave in with a sigh, lowering his head onto Sebastian’s chest and hooking one leg over his stomach. Sebastian’s arms gathered him in.

The room was chilly, but under the duvet Sebastian’s sleep-warmed body was like a radiator. Ominis buried his face in Sebastian’s chest, breathing in the familiar scent of warmth, sleep, and Sebastian himself. In response, Sebastian gave him a gentle squeeze and pressed a soft kiss to the crown of his head. Ominis’s eyes grew heavy all over again.

A few minutes later, he flinched awake.

“Sebastian,” Ominis said, a touch more firmly this time. “You need to get up.”

Sebastian made another displeased noise, and only tightened his arms around Ominis.

Or perhaps he was simply too tired to properly explain himself. “I always set my alarm fifteen minutes earlier than I actually need to get up. So I’ve got time to cuddle you properly every morning.”

Ominis’s stomach, already warm, seemed to melt even further. For a moment he lay completely still, taking in the fact that his boyfriend — the sleepiest man alive — chose to wake up early every single morning just so he had time to hold Ominis a few minutes extra. Ominis had assumed they’d simply lucked out with Sebastian’s timetable, that that was why they always managed a few minutes of half-sleeping or quiet chatter before Sebastian had to get up. Apparently, it was all carefully engineered.

“All right then,” Ominis sighed, giving in. If anything, he tucked himself even closer against Sebastian, drew in a long breath, and let his eyes fall shut again.

In the end, Sebastian overslept. Ominis stayed in bed, wearing a smug little smile as he listened to his boyfriend rushing about the kitchen; cursing under his breath, hunting for his keys, and trying to eat a piece of toast at the same time.

“You could’ve woken me again,” Sebastian said, mock-accusing, when he finally returned to the bedroom. Ominis blinked up at him slowly, feigning wide-eyed innocence.

“Me? Your poor exhausted boyfriend who has to be up at seven even though he doesn’t start until ten most days?”

“Yes,” Sebastian replied, and Ominis could tell from his footsteps that he’d already got his shoes on as he crossed to the bed. Ominis didn’t correct him, just tilted his face up expectantly and let Sebastian press a quick kiss to his lips.

“I’m home around four today. I can stop by that Indian place on the way back and bring dinner. They always have some sort of Thursday deal.” The cold zip of Sebastian’s jacket brushed Ominis’s cheek as Sebastian dropped another kiss to his forehead, then one to his cheek.

“Gladly,” Ominis murmured, sinking back into the bed. “No coriander, please.”

“I know,” Sebastian replied, and Ominis could practically hear the eye-roll. To tease him further, he yanked the duvet up to his chin and wiggled smugly into the pillow, kicking his feet under the covers like a contented cat.

“Stop,” Sebastian groaned. “That’s bullying. Why do you get to stay in bed being all cosy while I have to go and explain to Hobhouse why his citations are a disaster?”

“Because you are a noble, strong, and valiant man,” Ominis declared with theatrical grandeur, “off to wage war against the capitalist patriarchy we live in. Whereas I am a delicate housewife who potters about at home, awaiting your triumphant return from the frontlines.”

“You’ve got lectures today as well.”

A hand emerged from beneath the duvet, waving him off dismissively.

“Details.”

Sebastian let out a despairing noise.

“Fuck, I’ve got to run. See you tonight. Love you.”

“Love you too,” Ominis echoed. To his surprise, Sebastian stepped forward and pressed one more kiss to his forehead before practically sprinting out of the room.

“Where the hell did I put my keys?” Ominis heard him mutter angrily from the hall. Smiling to himself, Ominis shook his head, pulled the duvet snugly up to his chin, and rolled onto his side with a satisfied little sigh.
