Chapter Text
The atmosphere became extremely awkward.
I shrank my head and lowered it, but I could still feel Katsuki's furious gaze.
The head of the kidnappers, noticing the tension, quickly tried to smooth things over:
"Since you're all acquaintances, Sir, you should take him back now."
He ordered someone to untie me while advising:
"Young boy, you shouldn’t be randomly getting into other people’s cars next time."
I had gotten lost and climbed into their truck, which was parked by the roadside, and was mistaken for a thief, leading to me being tied up here.
The boss suspected I was a corporate spy and interrogated me.
Not long after, Katsuki arrived.
And then...
I guiltily looked at Katsuki, meeting his cold, knife-like gaze.
"What kind of acquaintance doesn't even remember my name?"
He sneered, turning his head and throwing out a cold remark:
"I’m not familiar with him."
"I was almost your husband, how could we not be familiar?"
Seeing that Katsuki had no intention of caring about my fate, I quickly grabbed his suit sleeve, pitifully pleading:
"Katsuki, please don't abandon me..."
Katsuki spun around with a snarl, his goddamn eyes blazing ruby red.
"Izuku."
He clenched his jaw, his voice hoarse:
"It was you who abandoned me first!"
I was the one who initiated the breakup between Katsuki and me.
Three years ago, Katsuki had been preparing to propose to me.
Since I was a workaholic and often worked overtime, he began confirming with me daily, half a month in advance:
"Zuku, have you cleared your schedule for 7 PM on the 20th?"
Each time, I reassured him:
"Don't worry! That time is reserved just for you."
At that point, I had already guessed he was going to propose, and I even figured out what kind of ring he had prepared for the occasion.
I canceled all my work and made sure to get dressed up beautifully in advance.
Then...
That night, at midnight, Katsuki found me at a bar in the city center.
He was disheveled in his suit, clutching a bouquet of wilted, battered roses, looking utterly defeated.
Meanwhile, I was sitting in a VIP booth, impeccably dressed, drinking and chatting with a group of friends, smiling and laughing.
"Izuku, do you remember what you promised me?"
Faced with his questioning, I was flustered and at a loss:
"I'm sorry, I forgot..."
I had genuinely forgotten.
Katsuki let out a bitter laugh, choking back his emotions as he weakly asked:
"Izuku, how many times has this happened?"
I had lost count of how many times I had forgotten and stood him up with that "excuse".
But this was the first time Katsuki was so angry that he moved out of the small apartment we shared and didn’t contact me for three days.
On the fourth day, he reached out to me first:
【Izuku, I'm waiting for your explanation.】
My reply was: 【Let's break up.】
No matter how angry Katsuki had been, he had never once considered breaking up.
【Why...】
Panicked, he called me, his voice hoarse beyond recognition:
"You forgot, so what? I'm not mad... I shouldn't have been mad. I won’t get angry with you anymore, Izuku, please, don’t say breakup."
I told him he was useless, that he had no money, that he was too clingy and annoying, that I was tired of him...
I took the sharpest words I could find and turned them into blades, mercilessly stabbing them into Katsuki's heart.
I was the one who threw Katsuki away.
As I thought of this, my hand gripping the sleeve of Katsuki's shirt suddenly felt like it was clutching a needle, the pain causing me to instinctively loosen my grip.
"Izuku, I’m not like you."
Katsuki suddenly grasped my hand, which had loosened, and with a bitter smile, he said:
"I’m not as heartless as you.”
