Summary
Kurapika died on the Black Whale and woke in the Lukso forest, years before the massacre. His clan was alive. His chains were intact. And somewhere in the smog-choked ruins of Meteor City, the boy who would become the Phantom Troupe's leader was reading a book about the Scarlet Eyes and wondering what they were worth.
If I cannot kill the monster, Kurapika thought, I will have to love it into something else.
Kurapika closed his eyes. Chrollo's fingers were touching his face. His fingertips were cold. Kurapika could feel the faint calluses on Chrollo's index finger and thumb, from holding books, he realised. From turning pages by candlelight.
He leaned in.
The kiss was clumsy. Chrollo tilted his head the wrong way, their noses brushing awkwardly. He made a small, frustrated sound against Kurapika's mouth and adjusted, and the second attempt was better, softer, his lips parting on an inhale like he was surprised this was allowed.
He told himself it was strategy. He kept telling himself that long after strategy stopped being a convincing explanation.

Summary
The Phantom Troupe for all it's notoriety and fear mongering was a rather disinteresting group to be part of. You pack together enough high their Nen users and there's really no threat that can stand against you. Honestly the biggest challenge Kurapika would argue was not the missions themselves but the man organising them and the lengths he would go to keep his plans fresh. Some would call it strategy, a way to stay unpredictable. Kurapika would call it what it was; boredom and the intention to mess with him.
