“If I could wish for one thing~! I’d take the smile that you bring~! Wherever you go in this world~! I’ll come along~!”

(Two boys, one of red hair, the other of blue, walk around their garden outside their cottage in the woods)

“Together we dream the same dream~! Forever I’m here for you, you’re here for me~! Oh whoa oh~! Two voices, one song~!”

(The two tend to their various flowers and vegetables that were growing, making sure they got plenty of water)

“And anywhere you are, you know I’ll be around~! And when you call my name, I’ll listen for the sound~!”

(The two set up bouquets of flowers and bundles of veggies at their shop stand as a carriage passes by to buy some, dropping the money in a bowl)

“If I could wish for one thing~ I’d take the smile that you bring~”

“Wherever you go in this world~ I’ll come along~”

(The boys wave goodbye to the carriage as the scene transfers to them inside their cottage, sitting on their beds as they sing)

“Together we dream the same dream~! Forever I’m here for you, you’re here for me~! Oh whoa oh~! Two voices, one song~~!”

“Damn, that was pretty good! I like it!” The redhead commented, setting his guitar aside and standing up.

“So do I. It sounds magical somehow.” The redhead laughed at the bluenettes words.

“Hah! Everything sounds magical to you, Deuce!” The redhead walks over to a nearby table, picking up some empty plates.

“Well, that’s because I believe in magic!” Deuce scoffed playfully. “And wishes!”

“How about dreams that come true?” The redhead asks, turning to face Deuce.

“Of course! Those are the most special!” Deuce argued, only for his roommate to hand him a stack of plates.

“Perfect, then it’s your turn to do the dishes!” He laughed as he saw Deuce’s confused face. “My dream come true!”

Deuce smirked, standing up from his bed to place the plates in the sink. “You know, Ace… I also believe in witches.” Ace smirked, knowing exactly where this was heading. “Evil witches who chase unsupecting boys with soapy dishcloths!” Deuce grabbed the nearby cloth and started chasing Ace down, the two laughing the whole time.

The following day was the same as any other. Waking up, tending to the garden, and selling what they could to whoever stopped by. Deuce was crouched down by a patch of flowers, making sure they were getting enough water, when Ace called out to him. “Oi! Deuce!” Turning his head, Deuce saw his roommate standing on a stone in the middle of the nearby stream. “Come here!”

Standing up, the bluenette made his way over, hopping over the stone with a bit of assistance from Ace. “What is it?” Ace pointed down at the water. Nestled underneath lay two stones, carved perfectly into the shape of hearts. “Whoa, talk about pretty. They almost look…”

“Magical?” Ace laughed, knowing exactly what Deuce was thinking. “I can’t blame you for thinking that.”

“Oh, what if you made them into necklaces?” Deuce suggested, holding the stone up to his neck. “Necklaces that have the secret power to grant a wish?”

“Not a bad idea, Deuce.” Ace held out his hand, allowing Deuce to take it as the two closed their eyes.

“Best friends today,” Deuce spoke, clutching the stone in his other hand.

“Tomorrow.” Ace continued, mimicking Deuce’s gesture.

“And always!” They finished together, laughing as they stood there with their new trinkets. It wasn’t until a low grumble filled the air that Deuce looked back at Ace.

“You ok?” Ace just looked up and shook his head at Deuce’s question.

“Hungry…” Deuce sighed at the boy’s words. “All we have back home is bread and jam… and our veggies.” Ace then looked up, noticing how dark the sky was getting. “Oh no… don’t tell me.”

Sure enough, a storm was rolling in, and fast. The winds so strong that the boys were starting to struggle to see anything. “Ace, our stuff!” Deuce cried out, pointing at their baskets of flowers and veggies that were starting to roll away.

Hopping back to land, the boys chased down their respective baskets, the winds just growing stronger and stronger. Flowers were hoisted from the ground, the wooden arches they set up crashed to the ground, and tree branches collapsed. Running back towards their cottage as fast as they could, there was no denying that there would be a mess to clean up later.

Inside, Deuce rushed to lock all windows and doors, lighting a few candles that had been snuffed out by the wind. “Geez… hopefully it’ll be over soon.”

“Maybe if you wish on something magical,” Ace spoke up, tossing something to Deuce. Holding it up, it was the heart stone, now wrapped in string. “Put it on.”

Putting the necklace on, Deuce grabbed a nearby mirror to examine it. “Whoa, you work fast.” Gently touching his neck, Deuce looked over at Ace. “What about yours?”

“Hehe, check it.” Ace pulled out his own, an exact copy of Deuce’s. “The perfect match!” That’s when a loud boom of thunder caused the boys to scream, but with each other by their side, nothing would keep them scared for long.

Morning came, and the boys woke up to head outside and inspect the damage. “Yikes…” Was all Ace could say. Everything was ruined, from the garden to the shop stand. Branches littered the place, making it hard to walk. “Well… let’s see if there’s anything we can salvage.”

Deuce picked up a lone flower, smiling at his friend as the two got to work. It took nearly an hour to collect anything that wasn’t damaged or splattered, and in the end… it was hardly anything. “Welp… that’s it.” Deuce sighed, plopping down on his bed. “Even if we sold all of this, there’s no way the money would last us till growing season.”

Ace looked at his friend before taking a breath. “Of course it will! You worry too much.” It was more of a white lie than anything else; of course, Ace was just as nervous about their situation. “Now, what do you want for lunch? We have bread and jam, or jam and bread.”

Deuce sat up, watching as Ace grabbed the ingredients to make them each a sandwich. “You know what I would wish for if these things were magic?” He brought a hand up to his necklace, fiddling with the stone. “More. More food than we could possibly eat. More house than we could ever explore. More clothes than we could ever wear.”

“Only thing we’d have to worry about then is how insufferable we’d be. ‘Butler, I can’t possibly wear all these amazing outfits!’ Haha!” Ace joked, handing Deuce his sandwich as the two headed out the door to make their way to town.

Making their way down the path, Deuce added his own joke to the mix. “‘How dare the princesses invite me to five different parties. I can’t possibly go to all of them.’ Haha!” The duo laughed, passing by an old lady clad in black rags, a huge bag swung over her shoulder. “Good day, ma’am.”

“And to you…” She replied back to the bluenette. Taking but a few steps more, the boys stopped, noting the woman’s figure.

“She looked…” Ace started.

“Starving…” Deuce finished, turning on his heel and fishing the sandwich out of his basket. “Excuse me, ma’am! Please, can I share this with you?” Deuce offered, holding out his sandwich. The lady stopped, placing her bag on the ground.

“But it’s your lunch…” She replied, hesitant to take the food. When Deuce insisted, she smiled warmly. “Thank you, young man. Please… take one of my treasures.” She gestured down to her bag, which was filled with many dirty and broken objects.

Feeling bad, Deuce shook his head. “Oh, I couldn’t…” This caused the woman to look down in sadness, and for Ace to elbow the bluenette.

“You don’t wanna hurt her feelings, idiot,” Ace whispered, causing Deuce to look down at the bag once again. Reaching in, he pulled out a very dirty mirror that was shaped like a heart.

“There you go… A nice present for a nice boy.” The lady smiled, and Deuce thanked her before they went their separate ways.

“One. Two. Three…” Deuce counted as he dropped the gold coins into a bowl. “Guess that fancy carriage will have to wait until next year. Right, Ace?” No response. Turning towards the redhead, Deuce saw him holding the mirror and a cloth.

“Now this is what I call magical,” Ace commented, turning the now sparkling clean mirror towards Deuce. It had a golden trim and a few flowers, some purple, others blue.

“Maybe we should track down that lady. She didn’t know the fortune she was sitting on.” Deuce suggested, making Ace sigh. As much as Ace didn’t wanna give up something so valuable, he knew Deuce was right.

“Yeah, yeah, after we fix up our garden,” Ace stated, shoving the mirror into his basket before making his way outside.

“I’m blindfolded on this carriage ride that they call life~”

“Keep trying to make it~ Through that next turn~ Knuckles white and holding tight~”

(Ace and Deuce start singing as they pick up stray branches to grab their brooms)

“So here I go~! Taking the curve~!”

“But I know that I’m never alone~! I think of you~!”

“And how you never let me go~!”

(Using their brooms as makeshift microphones, the two sweep up their garden while enjoying each other’s company)

“I feel connected~!”

“Connected~!”

“Protected~!

“Protected~!”

“It’s like you’re sitting right~ With me all the time~!”

(The two swing around each other, still cleaning, but that part seems to be less important now)

“You hear me~!”

“You hear me~!”

“You’re near me~!”

“You’re near me~!”

“And everything else is gonna be alright~!”

(Dropping their brooms for a moment, the two end up dancing together instead)

“Cause nothing can break this~!”

“Nothing can break this~!”

“Nothing can break this tie~! Connected~~!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two boy put their song on pause, noticing that there was an additional voice singing with them. Looking around, all they saw in the direction of the voice was Ace’s basket. Nodding to each other, they decided to test that theory. “Cause nothing can break this~ Nothing can break this~ Nothing can break this tie~ Connected~!”
“Yeah~!” Sure enough, the boys did in fact hear a voice coming from Ace’s basket. What was weird was that it somehow knew the lyrics to their song.
“Yeah… not creepy at all,” Deuce whispered to Ace, hesitant to go anywhere near the basket.
Ace just shrugged and gave Deuce another countdown. “Cause nothing can break this~ Nothing can break this~ Nothing can break this tie~” Ace reached into the basket and yoinked out the mirror, holding it up as they sang.
“Connected~ Connected inside~!” Much to the boys’ surprise, the mirror held not their reflections, but someone else entirely. Looks like they found the source of that mysterious voice. “Hey, sing that chorus again, would ya’?” The boy in the mirror spoke directly to them, confirming that it wasn’t just some vision.
“Uh, sure…” Ace replied hesitantly, not knowing if he should trust this random lavender-haired boy in the mirror. “You have a really nice voice, dude.”
The mirror boy just laughed and gave the two a confident smile. “Y’all ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” Once the boy stopped laughing, he took a breath. “I ain’t sung nothin’ in so long. Talk ‘bout missin’ yer heart an’ soul.”
“So, are you… real?” Deuce looked at the boy, then the mirror, then back to the boy. “How’d you get in there?”
You would’ve thought Deuce offended the boy because his eyes opened wide. “Dangnabbit! Look, I ain’t nobody! Forget y’all ever saw me!” With that, he was gone, and the mirror once again reflected the two boys.
“Nice going, Deuce.” Ace shook the mirror a bit, wanting the country boy to come back out. “Two voices?” Deuce nodded, and Ace counted down from three.
“If I could wish for one thing~! I’d take the smile that you bring~!” Nothing, the mirror remained just a normal mirror. No lavender hair or country accent in sight. “Wherever you go in this world~ I’ll come along~!”
“I’ll come along~!” There he was. With all three of them present, they decided to just keep singing, because why not? Not like anything bad was going to happen.
