Under the Jasper Mountain was the abode of the King of Serpents. Morax was the Serpent’s name, but most said it was best not to call him by it – he heard everything, sent his snakes to watch and listen to what was spoken about him. Treasures uncountable were concealed in the heart of the serpent kingdom, hoarded by the Serpent throughout his long life, yet few brave men turned up willing to go and see whether that was truth or empty barking.

They say that a terrible curse looms over Paris, and for some damn reason it's Wriothesley's job to deal with it, even though he doesn't believe in all this mystical stuff. But a string of strange acquaintances, including the enigmatic Monsieur Neuvillette, makes him reconsider just how closely two worlds, mundane and magical, can coexist. And, most importantly, just what danger for all of humanity that entails.
