Error enjoyed the quiet. It was easier to be alone in silence then be expected to do the one thing he couldn’t: speak. It had always been like that, from the day Fate so cruelly ripped him from his beloved universe, his home, his family, his brother, and forced him to clean up after the Creator’s mess. From the day he was forced to live in silence, to never be able to speak out against the harsh god who left him on a leash made of the painful red strings. Error was used to the silence. It made everything easier.
Currently, he was resting in the Anti-Void, waiting for his healing factor to finally kick in from yesterday’s bloody fight. Ink was annoyed that Error refused to speak to him, despite him signing that he simply couldn’t multiple times. It made Ink furious, and after downing his red vial, he kept lunging after Error. Attack after attack, until the AU was too unstable for them to keep fighting. Error ran through the first portal back home, not bothering to look back at Ink.
Lying on his bean bag, he opened a portal to Undernovela. It was another rerun, not that the Destroyer cared. Anything that took his mind off the pain helped. His healing factor was still lowered from his last fight with Ink, and he knew he’d be out for a few days while he healed. Hopefully Ink wouldn’t go on any creation sprees.
His luck ran out, unfortunately. He’d have to destroy eight universes a day to keep up with this at this point! Perhaps if he were able to talk, the Creator would finally see him as an equal and be willing to talk? “[No. Even if I could, which I can’t, he’d never listen.]”, He signed to the blue strings above.
He bolted up as an idea struck him. Sci! The scientist was strictly neutral, so he couldn’t deny anyone, not even the Destroyer of Worlds. Assuming Sci could sign, which, given all scientists work/have worked with a Gaster who was known for using sign language, he could help Error. With his injuries, with his…situation with Fate, and, if he was lucky, he may be able to speak. Error immediately ripped open a portal to his AU and stood in front of the lab.
The door slid open, and Error gasped. The room was filled with papers, diagrams, books, and what looked to be…coffee machines? Sci’s coffee addiction was no joke as it seemed. Still, he pressed forward, avoiding as much as he could. He reached the end of the hall and knocked on the first door. A very exhausted Sci answered, still in a robe and holding a pot of coffee. He looked up and didn’t even blink.
“Whaddya want?”, He muttered, shifting his weight from one leg to the other. “[I need your help.]”, Error signed. Sci groaned, rolled his eyelights, and let him in. Error followed behind, keeping pace. Admittedly, it wasn’t hard. Error was already tall, and with the skeleton beside him trudging forward, Error was barely even moving. However, it’s the thought that counts. After a while, Sci had apparently reached where he wanted to be. He stopped and turned on a light, engulfing the room with harsh fluorescence. Error winced at the bright light and Sci finally saw who it was.
“Fuck.”, Sci muttered, backing up into a desk. Error tilted his head in an unspoken question. He raised his hands to sign, but Sci used blue magic on his soul and prevented him from moving. “Get aWAY FROM ME.”, He shouted, moving into a corner. Error was extremely confused. Wasn’t Sci supposed to help? Did he not know it was Error at first? What changed?
After a moment of them just standing there, Sci released his hold. “You have no idea what you’re doing, do you? This is a neutral universe, you know. I don’t want to mess with you, okay?”, He sighed. “[I thought you were going to help me.]”, Error signed. Sci squinted his eye sockets and shrugged.
“Look, I’m not going to help you unless you promise me one thing, okay? I need you to promise me that you won’t destroy my universe while you are here. That is the only way u will help you. Got it?”
Error nodded, then answered. “[I promise. I don’t want to destroy anyways.]”, Sci seemed shocked at this revelation.
“It’s 4 in the morning, I haven’t had any sleep, and now the fucking Destroyer of Worlds is standing in front of me asking for my help. Mine. And now he just said that he doesn’t want to destroy? You know, his job? What the actual fuck is my life?!”, Sci yelled to no one in particular. Error struggled to hide a slight laugh.
“[I have a few problems. Number one is that my healing factor has slowed down significantly. Number two is that I have no vocal cords and would like to be able to speak. Number three is that I am bound to a Goddess who is forcing me to destroy. How much time do you have?]”
After a few hours of signing, Sci understood all of Error’s situation. Sci unfortunately couldn’t help with Fate, but he could help with the healing process and fixing his vocal cords so he may be able to talk again. Perhaps his future was brighter than he had believed.
