Hailstorm

Notes:

Day 4: Hail

Work Text:

Dick stayed over for dinner, and whatever Percy had made, it was really good. Sometime not long after Dick had ended up in the apartment, it had started to hail, which wasn’t a surprise for Gotham this time of year, but the amount of hail was the worrying part. The size of them, too, Dick swore at one point, they were the size of golf balls. He quietly sighed as he returned to whatever Percy had made. He really should ask, but the table was completely silent, only broken by the sound of forks and spoons against the plate. He didn’t even want to try breaking the silence, knowing that Jason had a short temper and he knew nothing about Percy at all.

Percy didn’t show anything with his body language, and the only thing that Dicl heard come out of his mouth was not English or any other language he knew, so it was hopeless there. He was honestly surprised when Jason offered to let him stay for dinner, but he knew that it would come to an end sooner rather than later, and he would end up having to go out in the hail.

Dick, knowing the reputation that Crime Alley had when it came to motorcycles, left his just outside of Crime Alley, hidden in an alleyway, but that meant he would need to walk back in the hail to get it back.

Percy seemed to be reading him a lot better than Dick was reading Percy because he looked at him and tilted his head slightly, almost questioning Dick, his eyes reading ‘you good?’

Dick didn’t know what to say, but before he could say anything at all, Jason spoke up, “So, Dickwing, I thought you were still in Bludhaven,” he commented before scooping another mouthful of the food into his mouth.

“Oh, I was just thinking it’d be nice to stop by and say hi,” Dick said.

It was comical. Dick was always the most outgoing in the family, yet in the face of Jason and his boyfriend, he still hadn’t gotten over the fact that he kept it from them; he was quiet.

The quiet around the trio rained for a bit longer, Dick having finished his plate along with Percy, but Jason had gotten a second plate.

Dick just sat there, playing with his hands before he noticed Percy get up and grab his plate along with Dicks, causing Dick to immeidatly jump to his feet, “Oh, I’m sorry, i should have helped,” he rushed out but was cut off by Percy speaking directly to him, “No need, i like cleaning up the dishes,” he smiled at Dick before going over to the kitchen, putting the dishes into the sink and turning on the tap, letting them soak in hot water.

Dick stood there stunned for a second, and Jason laughed, “Don’t worry, he’s weird, and I’m pretty sure the silence was killing him, he really doesn’t mind it, I’ve tried multiple times to help, but I end up getting kicked out of the kitchen,” Jason whispered to Dick while looking in Percy's dirrection.

After Jason had finished and Percy had finished with the dishes, they all ended up in the living room. Percy curled into Jason's side on the couch while Dick sat on the chair across from them.

It was quiet for a few moments before Percy spoke, addressing Dick again, “So, I’ve heard a bit about you, but Jay here likes to hide from his family,” Percy joked, causing Jason to ruffle his hair a bit, “But Dick, what do you do?” Percy asked, breaking the ice that was around the room.

“Oh, uh, I work as a Bludhaven cop, and I’m just visiting here for a bit,” Dick said, the first part causing Percy to giggle, which caused Jason to smile, “Don’t,” Jason seemed to have warned Percy, which just caused him to full on start laughing and get a confused look out of Dick.

Jason sighed as he explained, “Perce here has a bad reputation with cops, and he also knows about our nightlife.”

That part was funny, Dick had to admit; it also got him laughing.

And just like that, the once thick air had turned light by Dick just telling Percy what he did.

Dick ended up sharing some more stories with Percy, including some stories from before Percy had met Jason, and it just kept him laughing all night.

It was nearing midnight when Dick finally decided it was time to go. He moved to get up but was cut off by a question from Percy, “Where are you going?” he asked tiredly.

“Uh, I need to go, it’s late, and I don’t want to keep you guys up any longer?” Dick responded, again moving to grab his stuff but once again stopped when Percy spoke, “There’s a lot of hail out there and it’s late, stay over for the night, you can sleep in the spare bedroom,” he offered, and Dick turned around to look at Jason and Percy, both of whom had open body language, inviting. Dick thought about it before agreeing to stay the night, getting led to the guest bedroom, and all but collapsing onto the bed.

He was glad he didn’t have to go out in the hailstorm.
