Stay a Little Too Close

Summary:

“He’s just too stubborn to ask for help.” Leon muttered in slight frustration.

He knocked on Emil’s door, waiting for a moment before opening it himself. Emil was still lying on the bed, unmoving but still shivering. Leon let out a shaky sigh as he gathered up the courage to step closer to his sleeping friend.

Leon placed the back of his hand on Emil’s forehead, checking for a fever and any other things that may indicate a fever. He felt a lot warmer than usual, which was a bad sign considering Emil most likely still felt chilled.

Yeah you have a fever… Leon muttered as Emil slightly stirred against his touch.

Work Text:

Emil shivered once more as Leon entered his separate bedroom in the shared dorm. He had been feeling cold a lot more than usual, despite it being late into spring.

Leon stepped over to the side of his bed, placing a hand on his shoulder and shaking him gently. “Hey…I heard you moving around a lot so I came to check on you.” He whispered.

Emil groaned, turning over and facing Leon, shivering as the blankets shifted slightly. Leon raised an eyebrow, grabbing a blanket from the end of the bed and covering Emil with it.

“You sound sick.” Leon observed.

“I’m not.” Emil insisted; pulling the covers over his head so the warmth of his breath would warm them up a bit. Leon stared at him for a long moment, taking mental notes of Emil’s current condition. He looked to be flushed despite shivering, along with sounding a bit hoarse.

“Can you go now? I’m trying to sleep.” Emil grumbled as he pulled the covers closer around himself. Leon blinked before stepping out of the room, standing in the doorway. “If you need anything…at all. Just tell me, ‘kay?”

Leon closed the door behind him, grabbing his wallet and shoving it in his pocket then heading out the door.

~~~
The door hinges groaned as Leon opened it. Leon had been gone from the dorm for around twenty minutes; coming back into the shared dorm room with a takeout bag with food from one of his and Emil’s favorite ramen restaurants near school.
Luckily for him, the ramen place also sold soup. Leon had a notion that the soup might soothe Emil’s throat. He had sounded very hoarse earlier…I think he might be sick. Leon reasoned, a troubled look on his face.
“He’s just too stubborn to ask for help.” Leon muttered in slight frustration.
He knocked on Emil’s door, waiting for a moment before opening it himself. Emil was still lying on the bed, unmoving but still shivering. Leon let out a shaky sigh as he gathered up the courage to step closer to his sleeping friend.
Leon placed the back of his hand on Emil’s forehead, checking for a fever and any other things that may indicate a fever. He felt a lot warmer than usual, which was a bad sign considering Emil most likely still felt chilled.
Yeah you have a fever… Leon muttered as Emil slightly stirred against his touch.
He placed a hand on Emil’s shoulder, trying to shake him awake. Emil blinked awake and groggily looked around the room.
“Hey…I got you soup from that ramen place you like.” Leon whispered, reaching down to carefully adjust the blankets around Emil, wincing a bit as his friend shivered a little. “Sorry.”
Emil slowly got up, taking the covers with him as he stood. He followed Leon as they exited the room and sat down at the small coffee table in the dorm’s mini kitchen. The food was already set out on the table with napkins and silverware already set out for the both of them.
Emil looked exhausted as he ate his food, taking slow bites and looking down at the table as he ate. Leon worriedly sighed, quickly standing up and grabbing a thermometer out of the dorm’s small cabinet.
“No arguments. We’re going to see if you have a fever.” Leon stated while staring the other directly in the eyes. Emil flushed before slowly taking the thermometer and putting it under his tongue.
After a moment he took it out and handed it back to Leon. The temperature read 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Leon was a bit startled by the temperature, accidentally dropping the thermometer on the table.
He looked back to Emil, who had already finished his food. He still looked to be awake, however he had his head down at the table.
“Can we go watch a movie? I’m tired of being in bed…” Emil finally spoke, lifting his head from the table.
Leon nodded quickly, relieved that Emil was at least speaking. “Yeah, let’s go.” He replied with a smile, leading Emil over to the couch.
~~~

It had been an hour or so since the two had settled on the couch together. They were close, sharing a blanket but keeping a safe distance.

Leon didn’t notice Emil moving closer to him at first. He was focused on the random drama they had both picked out to watch. He jolted to look at Emil as he felt added weight onto his chest.

Emil has curled up close to his side, his head laying on Leon’s chest. He could see the other’s eyes fluttering closed as he gazed down at him. He quickly looked away, flustered, but not pushing him away.

He sat there for a few moments contemplating what to do. After around five minutes, he carefully wrapped and arm around Emil’s side to pull him closer. He leaned back and closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep so he could play his actions off later.

~~~
Emil awoke from his nap a few hours later, dazed out of his mind. He could hear a faint quickened heartbeat from where his head was laying. He slowly opened his eyes to see the drama he and Leon had been watching earlier was still playing.
Emil froze up as he suddenly felt someone rubbing small circles onto his side. He slowly glanced up at who he was laying on. It was no other than Leon, face slightly flushed, mirroring Emil.
Emil closed his eyes once again as he saw Leon glancing down at him. He evened out his breathing to be slower, trying to play the act of being still asleep.
Maybe he could get used to things like this.
