"You're home early" Claudette stated as her dad came in through the front door. He smiled in confusion.
"Claudette, I'm home the same time I always am" he replied, tapping his watch. "6:30pm"
"It's 6:25pm" she corrected, gesturing towards the clock on the wall. He checked the wall clock, then his watch. She was right. "To c-cut the extra five minutes, you must've either left work earl- early or you walked faster on the way back. You always call before you leave work early, so i-it must be the latter" she explained. "What made you hurry back?"
"Well, it's my favorite daughter's 12th birthday!" he smiled. She frowned.
"Dad, I'm y-your only daughter"
"No, I know" he chuckled awkwardly. "But, you're still my favorite. I got you something" he began rummaging through his bag for a moment before revealing her gift.
"A new m-magnifying glass!"
"Happy birthday, Claudette" he smiled as she took the tool in one hand, her other bouncing up and down in excitement. She beamed up at him.
"I love you, dad!"
"I love you too, kiddo"
