“Thou hast tasted it. Wine of sin upon thy lips. This much I perceive, even as thou standeth before me with hands yet unsullied.”
“I drank of no wines,” answered the knight. “And my hands are unclean but for my enemies slaughtered with righteous cause and for wounds staunched hence. I reject Thee, and I will not suffer the burden of thy plots.”
“Lo! thou hast betrayed thyself,” and the Devil stepped into the light. “For did I not say that thy hands were unsullied? Nay, it has already begun.” And he opened the knight’s belly and wine poured out.
