Regulus rolls over in bed to feel golden rays of sunlight on his face, with a long sigh and a whole lot of grumbling. He he sits up and takes a look at his phone he rubs his eyes, the light from the phone making his eyes hurt from the brightness. He checks the time on his phone 11:17am, fuck he has less than an hour till James is picking him up and he isn’t even dressed.
He scrambled out of bed tripping on his pants leg and the blanket he had somehow managed to pull down in his attempt to escape his bed.
After untangling himself from his mess of blankets, he made it to the wardrobe. It was in this moment he realised that one should always plan their outfit the night before.
He raced back to his bed and grabbed his phone.
Regulus a. Black: Can you please tell me where we are going today, I am trying to get dressed.
James Potter: idk if I can disclose such information :)
Regulus a. Black: U r joking?
Regulus a. Black: at least tell me if it’s casual or not.
James Potter: causal ;)
God he was infuriating.
He ran back to the wardrobe now with some idea of what he should wear.
He wanted to look nice, but not too nice, he didn’t want James to think he was trying too hard.
He checked the weather on his phone, it was going to be sunny with no chance of rain. Well at least his hair wouldn’t puff up after getting wet.
He pulled out a pair of oversized dark wash jeans, his favourite over sized shirt and a black hoodie in case it did somehow get cold.
He chucked on his clothes and walked into his bathroom.
He look half decent and still very sleepy and he had, fifteen minutes until James was picking him up, nothing in his life was fair.
He reached for his face wash and a clean cloth; he dampened the towel and rubbed the face wash into his skin.
He loved the routine of doing skin care, it might sound really cheesy, but having small routines helps to keep him stable.
He finished his routine and unfortunately was still very sleepy, the butterflies in his stomach were going mad.
He nearly threw up by the time the doorbell rung, he near sprinted to the door still trying to pull his converse on.
“Hi” he said breathlessly, James looked perfect tanned skin and fit as hell, god maybe something in his life could go right.
“Hi there?” James replied quizzically, “oh wait here you go.” He beamed handing Regulus the flowers he had tucked away behind his back.
They were beautiful, sunflowers with golden leaves the little seeds practically glowing in the light.
“James they’re beautiful, you didn’t have to get me anything.” A massive blush spread across his face as he spoke.
“I just wanted to surprise you.” He shrugged, trying to seem cool but failing since he was still grinning like a fool.
“Cmon, I think we have a date to get to.” James said extending his hand for Regulus to take.
Regulus giggled and set down the flowers on his hall table, he shut and locked the door before taking James’s hand.
James led him to his car, it wasn’t fancy (thankfully) but it was still a nice car, he opened the door and gestured for Regulus to hop in.
Regulus did and clicked his seat belt into place.
James opened the drivers side door and quickly jumped in strapping on his own seatbelt.
He clicked the car into gear and they started moving.
“So now are you going to tell me where we are going?” Regulus questioned.
“Hmmm,” James said considering his options. “I don’t think so.”
Regulus glared and James just laughed.
Regulus huffed and turned to look out the window.
“No don’t pout you’ll see where we are going soon.” James chuckled as Regulus finally turned his head back.
“Well, this must be your plan to keep me interested, otherwise I would probably jump out of this car while it’s moving.” Regulus said dramatically.
James immediately locked all the doors in the car with one button, not even looking away from the road.
“Hey, it was a joke.” Regulus snapped, “Im not an infant you don’t need to lock the doors.”
“You know I know your brother, right?” James said casually, Regulus jaw dropped. “So, with you Regulus Im not taking that chance.”
“So, you did some kind of background check on me?” Regulus demanded, “What did my brother tell you?”
“Jeez chill out” Regulus glared at him for that. “I know your brother from college he’s one of my best mates, so he does talk about you believe it or not.
Oh, he’s the collage friend.
Regulus pulled out his phone.
“Wow bored of me already, gotta say I thought it would take longer.”
“Shut up you idiot Im texting my brother.” Regulus snapped.
Regulus a. Black: Sirius help I’ve been kidnapped.
Sirius: what
Regulus a. Black: your lack of concern is worrying.
Sirius: R u with that freaky girl Pandora again?
Regulus a. Black: no Im with your friend. Imbecile
Sirius: lol, send pic.
Regulus a. Black: *photo of him and James focused on driving in the background.*
Regulus a. Black: help
Sirius: wtf that looks like James.
Regulus a. Black: that is James you son of a bitch.
Sirius: how dare you talk about Euphemia like that.
Regulus a. Black: Im talking about our mother, bitch
Sirius: okay continue then.
Sirius: wait Im going to scare the shit out of him, Im gonna video call him and start screaming at him.
Sirius: don’t laugh.
Regulus a. Black: k.
James’s phone immediately started ringing.
“Regulus why is Sirius trying to video call me?” James asked panicking.
“Dunno pick up and find out.” Regulus shrugged.
He did he set it up on a phone stand and accepted the call, Sirius looked absolutely furious when James picked up the phone. It was going to be very hard not to laugh.
“Hi Sirius.” James voice shook as he spoke, his face two shades paler than it had been before.
“James,” Sirius voice a low growl, “what are you doing with my brother.”
“Sirius I-Im just.” He was sweating bullets. God it was so hard not to laugh.
“Sirius help me!” Regulus cried.
James turned and glared at Regulus
“He’s fine Sirius.” James said firmly
“You’re not helping.” He hissed at Regulus. Regulus just shrugged.
“What do you think your doing whispering to my brother.” Sirius scowls deepened, he was a good actor.
“Sirius help he locked all the doors he’s threatening me!” Regulus said dramatically.
“I did that because you threatened to jump out of a moving car, Sirius I swear he is fine!” James cried out.
Regulus and Sirius made eye contact and burst out laughing.
James sighed and deflated like a ballon “not funny you two.” James said firmly.
“It was pretty funny.” Regulus and Sirius said in unison.
“Sirius we have to go we’re almost at our destination.” James said reaching for the phone.
“Bye prongs.” Sirius said winking.
James hung up on him.
“Seriously Reggie? I thought he was going to kill me.” James said.
Regulus laughed, “worth it.”
James just sighed.
….
They in fact were very close and oh no, it was a carnival, literally, James had taken him to a carnival.
“James please don’t tell me that is where we are going.” Regulus asked.
“Yeah, why? Don’t tell me you don’t like carnivals?” James said panicking.
James had been nice enough to put up with his games and even planned a whole date so maybe he decided to keep his mouth shut.
They pulled into the parking lot and stepped out of the car.
They walked side by side into the carnival the place was cover in coloured led lights, carnival games, rides and sticky food.
“Well I don’t know about you but I am starving, do you want anything to eat?” James asked.
Regulus felt his stomach grumble at the mention of food.
“No thanks Im okay, but if your hungry we can go grab something.” Regulus said.
“If your sure.” James turned and saw a stand for corn dogs. “Im just gonna grab a corn dog I’ll be right back.”
….
James returned with a corn dog in hand happily munching.
“See any rides you wanna go on?” James asked before taking another bite of corn dog.
“Umm” the truth is Regulus didn’t even really look around at anything.
“That’s okay if you didn’t,” James said happily. “Woah look at that thing!”
Of course James had found the most terrifying ride at the carnival, it spun 360 degrees and could leave you dangling upside down for up to 10 seconds.
“Let’s go on that,” James said.
“Uhh.” Regulus was contemplating his life choices.
“Unless you’re too scared.” James teased.
“No-“ Regulus said defensively, “let’s go on it right now.” He grabbed James hand and started pulling him along.
“Right now? I haven’t even finished my corn dog, are you sure you want to?” James questioned.
“Yes now come on” Regulus snapped.
….
They got into line and unfortunately it wasn’t a very long line.
“Regulus it was just a joke you don’t actaully have to go on this ride.” James said gently.
“I know I want to.” Regulus replied.
Regulus in fact did not want to he was just desperate to not seem like a wuss.
They were next up on the ride and the employee running it ushered them past the gate.
They had them sit dow in plastic seats with space to spread your legs a bit, the employee came around and strapped everyone into a life vest looking thing that kept you from moving… or falling out.
The ride started slow at first rocking side to side. Regulus gripped onto the the thing around his chest securing him.
“Are you okay Regulus, you look a little pale?” James asked.
“I’m fine.” Regulus snapped.
The ride started to pick up speed and was nearing doing a full 360, Regulus was screaming now.
His lungs burn and he couldn’t close his eyes.
It finally did a full 360 and James was laughing, while Regulus was trying not to throw up because it felt like his guts were being rearranged.
It let them swing around again, Regulus let out a blood curdling scream and grabbed onto James.
James laughed louder.
They did three more 360’s while Regulus clung to James’s arm so tightly he was pretty sure he was cutting off circulation.
The ride finally slowed to a halt, the employee cam back around and let people off the ride.
The minute Regulus stood up he immediately tripped and fell, his whole body felt like it was falling.
James helped him up off the ground laughing.
“I did tell you that you didn’t have to do it.” James chuckled.
“Oh shut up.” Regulus said playfully pushing James.
They both laughed and walked out to a bench and they both sat down.
“I think I will never do that ever again.” Regulus declared.
“Yeah alright then.” James chuckled. “Hey are you okay you’re still really pale?”
Regulus promptly got up shakily and vomited in the nearest trash can.
“I think you might need to lie down,” James said leading Regulus towards the exit.
“What no James Im fine.” Regulus said.
“Uh huh, you’re about to puke again, aren’t you?” James asked and right on cue Regulus turned and threw up in a bush.
“That’s what I thought.” James said and led Regulus back to the car.
….
James dropped Regulus off at his places and walked him to the door.
“Thanks again for dropping me home James.” Regulus said.
“Anytime Reggie, maybe i’ll let you choose where we go next time.” Said James.
“Yeah I’d like that James.” Regulus said softly looking at the floor. “I’ll text you Ik the morning okay?”
“Okay talk to you then.” Said James.
Regulus watched from the door way as James walked to his car, before getting in he waved at Regulus and Regulus smiled back waving.
He stood there until James’s car was out of sight.
He let the door shut and he walked to his bed, taking his clothes off as he went.
His stomach grumbled as he lied down, he reached over to his bedside table and grabbed the water bottle, drinking all of the contents before lying down and falling asleep.
He went to sleep thinking of the day, and it had been a good one.
