Chapter Text
Mary was walking around after a hunt she had done with Ketch. She had a lot to explore about the world now, how much it changed since she died.
She bumped into a girl who, didn't look well.. "oh- are you okay?" She asks, worriedly.
"Eh.. Could be," she coughs, "better.." she says, rubbing her forehead. "Oh, come here. Let's get you sitting down," Mary says, helping her to a bench. "I don't need to sit. I need to get something that'll last-" the girl looks up at Mary now that her eyes are clear. "I'm Mary, Mary Winchester.." she says with a smile. "And what do you mean by last?"
"M- Mary.. oh.. thats an.. interesting name.. uh, medicine that actually works," she mutters. It slowly processes for a second. "Wait.. Winchester?.." she looks up, eyes widening. "Yeah, uh.. why? You know my sons?" Mary asks, curiously.
"...I'll be damned.. literally.." she mutters the last part under his breath. "Yeah, I'm Lucy.. its nice to meet you, ma'am.." she says, trying to sound sweet. "Nice to meet you, how do you know my boys?" She asks, leaning back.
"...uh.. we've.. run into each other.." she says, suddenly gasps in pain, holding her stomach. "Are you okay!?" Mary asks, worried. "Shit- yeah.. just.. you know John had another kid, right?.. he's stuck in a cage in hell, endless torture.." she says before starting to limp off.
Mary just sits there. In shock. She had read in John's journal about a kid named "Addison"..
Her phone rings, Ketch is wondering why she isn't back at the motel. She swallows and texts him 'I need to go visit my sons for a minute'. He texts back. 'Fine, a week'.
Meanwhile in the cage..
"Adam, are you okay?" Michael asks in their head. Michael is trying his best to guard Adam from the pain of the cage, but he can only do so much. "Are you?.. you're the one taking all this in.." Adam asks quietly. "I'm.. okay.." he says, looking up at the cage.
"L- Let me take it for a while.. please.." Adam says quietly. "No, Adam, no," Michael shakes his head, "Your human mind wouldn't be able to handle it all.." he says. Adam kinda smiles in their mind. "You know, I have to say.. thank you for never deadnaming me.." he mutters, trying to distract Michael a little bit from the pain.. "What is a.. dead name? I was not aware a name could be dead.."
"Heh.. no.. its.. I used to go by Addison.. I figured you could see that in my mind.. hm?.." Adam asks. "Yes.. I.. didn't believe it was important," Michael says. "Thank you, Michael.." Adam says. "You already said that.." Michael responds. Adam laughs. "Because I mean it," he says, smiling a little.
"Your.. welcome.." Michael says. "At least we don't have to hear him anymore," Adam says, slightly laughing. "Yes, that is true.. though, I worry what my brother is doing now that he's on earth again," Michael says, trying to focus on keeping the stuff from the cage out of their mind.
Back with the Winchesters...
Mary walks in. "Hey mom, I made burgers once you said you were coming back," Dean says, putting them on the table in the war room. "Oh, thanks.." she says, walking downstairs.
"You look like you wanna ask something?" Sam asks, looking up from his book. She nods. "Whos Addison?" She asks, sitting.
The boys look confused for a minute. "Oh, you mean Adam," Sam suddenly says. "Right- yeah- Addison was his old name," Dean says, biting into his burger. "Old.. name?" Mary asks. "Yeah he was born a girl but, wasn't," Sam explains. Mary realizes and nods.
"So tell me about him.." Mary says, looking at them. "Uh.. we didn't really meet much," Sam says, sitting up, "So we don't know much, hell, we didn't know he existed until a hunt.."
Mary swallows. She decides to just come out and say it, "I was helping a girl who looked pretty sick.. and she.. um.. said Adam was.. in hell?.." she says. Dean nearly chokes on his burger. Sam shrinks into his chair. "So its true?" She asks.
"Okay well- we've been doing other things," Dean says defensively. "Not to mention he's with that ass of an archangel, Michael," he snaps. He looks away.
"Wait, you said some random sick girl told you?" Sam asks, realizing something. She nods, "yeah, she said her name was Lucy," Mary says. Sam sighs and sits up, rubbing his forehead. "Lucy, hm? Real original," He says annoyed. "Hm?" Dean looks confused. "How, sick was she?" Sam asks. "Uh, she was holding her stomach a lot, she said she needed something that would last, and I asked her what she meant and she said medicine.
"Damn it. Where was this, mom?" Sam asks, getting up now. "Uh, Pennsylvania, I was finishing up a hunt," Mary says. "Okay, well, I guess to Pennsylvania we go," Sam says, starting to grab his emergency go bag.
Dean is confused. "Can you explain?" He says. "Lucifer, Dean, I think mom just found Lucifer," Sam says. Dean's eyes widen. "Oh holy shit! I'll call Cas on the way-" Dean says, grabbing his own bag.
"...So your half brother is just.. sitting there.. being tortured..?" Mary mutters. "Yeah, but its the only way we can keep Michael contained," Dean says. "Be careful mom, don't go on any really dangerous hunts while we're gone," Sam says, before they both walk out.
Mary shakes her head. She can't just- let them sit there. Michael or not. She starts looking stuff up about the cage in the bunker. She sits after reading.
"Fine. I'll call that demon my boys seem to love so much," Mary mutters, going to find the spell. She puts it together and summons him.
"What do you want now boys-" he says, sipping his whiskey. He sees that its Mary. "Hm, the precious mother, I don't believe we've met, I'm Crowley," he says, putting his drink down, smirking. "Mary. Now, what do you know about the cage?" Mary asks. "Oh, straight to business, I like it.." Crowley says, leaning against the wall. "But, I have to know why you want to know about that," he says, eyes narrowing.
"Because- I just found out that, John had another kid.. and.. that he's in there," Mary says. "Ah, the Michael vessel, yes. But you're not actually thinking of opening it, right?" Crowley asks, standing up straight.
"Well.. no.. I just- want to talk to him.." Mary says. "..I can arrange that for a price..."
In the cage again..
"The darkness left again.. along with god.. I suppose they made up.." Michael says, trying to distract Adam, again. "Michael I'm tired," Adam mutters. "Okay.. go to sleep.. I'll keep as much pain as I can out.." He says, upping his power as much he can..
Michael sits there. Hugging his body, trying to calm Adam so he can sleep. "Go to sleep, Adam, I'll be fine," he says. "But.. taking in all that pain, Mikey.." Adam mutters. Michael never quite understood the nickname thing, but he liked it. He wouldn't admit that, but he did. "I.. Its fine.. Adam.. get some sleep, please," Michael says. Adam slowly falls asleep in their head. Michael sits there. Looking up. "Why did you leave me here, there has to be a reason. There has to be.."
"A price?" Mary asks, raising an eyebrow. "Usually I'd want a soul, but, you've already been to Heaven, so I can't have your soul," Crowley rolls his eyes. "Bloody stupid rules," he mutters.
"So.. what do you want, then?" Mary asks. "Information," Crowley says, crossing his arms. "...information about what?" Mary asks, hesitantly. "I already have an agreement with those british men of letters, I keep my demons under control in the UK.. but, it seems they don't intend to keep the same agreement here, I need you to find out what they're planning," Crowley says.
"How would I-" she starts. "Oh come on now, don't act bloody stupid. You're working with them, though, I have to wonder why," Crowley says. "You do know they tortured your precious youngest, hm?" Crowely asks, raising an eyebrow.
"They said that was a rogue agent," Mary says. "And you blindly believe those twits? So they don't get their mistrust from you, obviously," Crowley says. "..fine, I get your information, you let me see them," Mary says.
"Great, now, the matter of the contract, miss," Crowley smiles. "Oh- how do I sign?" Mary asks. Crowley smiles and walks over, pointing to his lips. "Excuse me?" Mary asks, incredulously. "That is how you seal a demon deal, a kiss on the lips," Crowley says, amused. "...fine, but if you speak of this to anyone, especially my boys, I'm punching you," Mary says. Crowley raises his hands. "Got it, so, Dean obviously got his snappiness from you," Crowley says with a smirk. "Lets just get this over with," Mary mutters.
Michael and Adam are sitting there. "Are you okay?" Michael asks. Adam is staring at the cage wall. "I'm tired, Michael. Really freaking tired of all this... I mean, Lucifer gets out and we're just, stuck here!" He snaps. "I know, hey, hey, whats going on?" Michael asks. "...I'm missing her today, my mom," Adam says quietly. "Oh, Adam, I'm sorry," Michael says. "I don't, quite understand what you feel, but, I know what its like to lose someone," he says.
"You do?" Adam asks, looking up at Michael. "Yes, I do.. I.. loved my brother before he.. betrayed us.. his name wasn't always Lucifer, did you know that?" Michael says. "No, what was it?" Adam asks, curious. "...I'm not sure I'm allowed to utter the name since he fell," Michael says. "Oh come on, its just us here, I wont tell anyone, not that there is anyone to tell," Adam says, laughing a little.
"Helel.. his name was.. Helel.. he used to be so kind, Adam," Michael says, looking nostalgic and sad. "So did my mom," Adam says. "Dads are a different conversation though," he says bitterly. "..you didn't have a good relationship with your father?" Michael asks. "I only saw him once a year, at most two," Adam says bitterly. "A little baseball game and then he was gone," he rolls his eyes.
"My dad.. I know he has to have a reason for keeping us here.." Michael mutters. "Yeah, or he just forgot about us, just like my so called half brothers did," Adam says. "I'm sorry for what happened in that room," Michael says. "It was a terrible, bad day, but, I met you," Adam says.
Suddenly they're sucked out to the main cage. A blonde woman standing in front of it. Michael backs their body up, wanting to protect Adam. "Uh, hello, I'm Mary. Mary Winchester," the woman says. Michael is confused. Adam is even more so.
"Didn't you die?" Michael asks, eyes narrowing. "Yes, but, someone named Amara brought me back," Mary says. "Amara?.." Michael asks. "Yeah, my son says she was the darkness or something," she says softly. "..aunt," Michael says.
"Um, so, I'm guessing I'm talking to Michael?" Mary asks, hesitantly walking closer to the cage. Michael backs them up more. "Yes, you are. Why did you want to see us?" He asks.
"..I wanted to know why they left you in here.. you don't seem dangerous," Mary says, frowning. "..Who left us in here?" Michael asks. "Um.. my boys," Mary says. "...right, Lucifers perfect vessel and, what was supposed to be my perfect vessel," Michael says.
"What do you mean what was supposed to be?" Mary asks. "Well, I believe I like Adam better," Michael says. "Can.. I talk to him?" Mary asks. Michael's eyes narrow. "No-" he starts saying. "I want to, Mikey, please," Adam says in their head. "Are you sure?" Michael asks. "Yes, I'm sure," Adam says.
Michael nods and backs up, letting Adam take control. "Um, hi," Adam says. "Uh, I'm guessing your Adam, then?" Mary asks. He nods. "I.. its nice to finally meet you," Mary says.
"I can only keep this open for so long, dearie," A female voice says from behind, Rowena. "Why did you pull us out? Just to talk? Ask some celestial question that Mike- Michael would know?" Adam snaps. "..I just- wanted to meet you.." Mary says. "And then your just gonna drop us back in, right? Back to the damned endless torture," Adam snaps back.
"I...uh.." Mary looks back at Rowena. Rowena raises an eyebrow and smirks, "Hm, hey Fergus, I think theres something I need your help with over here," she says, walking off, leading Crowley, but not before loosening the cage door with the spell.
Adam and Michael are silent, waiting for her responce. Mary swallows and forces the door open. "What the hell," Adam mutters, eyes widening. "I.. please, just go, I can't- hold it- goodness this door is heavy-" Mary mutters. Michael takes control. "Thank you, Mrs Winchester," he says before they walk out and disappear.
Mary closes the cage. Pretending the spell ended when Crowley walks back in. "Did you have a good talk? Great, now your end of the deal," Crowley says. "Right, I'll ask next time I meet up with Ketch," Mary says before leaving..
