Love and Sins

Chapter 1: Chapter 1(I)

Chapter Text

Elena Gilbert, or better known as Helena Mikaelson, knew something was wrong the moment she reached the door of her shared apartment. There was no sound of her human roommate's heartbeat; now that wouldn't be a cause for concern if there wasn't a scent of vampire in the air. She stood in place for a few moments, fidgeting with the keys in her hand as she contemplated what to do.

With a sigh, Helena unlocked the door and stepped inside, placing the keys in the bowl next to the door before walking into the living room to find the last vampire she ever expected to see sitting on her living room sofa. She frowned and walked past him, not even acknowledging him, as she headed towards the minibar to pour herself a drink. The vampire seemed content with waiting as she poured herself a drink. Helena downed the glass, the alcohol burning her throat, and she set the glass down with more force than necessary before addressing him, not bothering to turn and face him, "Where are they?" she asked coldly.

She could practically hear him roll his eyes before speaking, "Good Evening, Helena, it's lovely to see you too after so long", he commented sarcastically. It was now Helena's turn to roll her eyes. "My roommate, Elijah, what have you done with him?" she asked, finally turning to face him as she crossed her arms over her chest. Elijah sighed as he got up from where he had been sitting to walk around the room —hands in his pockets —, all the while Helena watched him closely. He stopped at the other end of the room, facing away from her as he observed one of the framed photos that hung on the wall, "You needn't worry about your little roommate, dear. I haven't done anything too drastic-" he paused turning around to face her "-I just compelled him to invite me in and for him to make himself busy elsewhere so we could have a private conversation" he explained.

Helena scoffed, "After all this time? You came here to talk. I find that hard to believe," Helena said, moving to sit on the armchair in front of her, crossing a leg over the other "but if you want to talk, fine. How did you find me?" she asked him, Elijah shrugged "you were careless in covering one of your tracks, by the way having the apartment signed in the humans name was a smart move, shame he wasn't on vervain though" he said with tut causing her glare to deepen "get to the point already" she demanded impatiently, Elijah, who decided to ignore her disrespectful behavior, sighed "Niklaus threw our family into the bottom of the ocean" Elijah explained as he started pacing once again, Helena's face remained exprestionless as she took in what Elijah told her she blinked twice as she slowly processed his words "I'm sorry what?" she said in disbelief.

Seeing how he finally caught her attention, Elijah continued, "Ah, yes, it's seems as the centuries past Niklaus grew more and more paranoid-" he told her, shooting her a quick glare when he heard her sarcastically mutter 'Oh you don't say?' "-and had taken great pleasure in informing me how he threw our family at sea" he explained, Helena stayed mostly quite through his explination, minus her sarcastic comment, as she nodded at his explination "and you're here because?" she asked curiously, "I want you're help to kill him" he stated coming to a stop on the opostite end of the coffee table. Helena let out a laugh at his declaration, "Haha, you want to kill Nik? Haha, oh, pfft, haha, oh my god," she said between fits of giggles. Elijah frowned. "Are you quite done, Helena?" Elijah asked, unamused as he waited for her to finish laughing, Helena took a few deep breaths before composing herself, "okay, ehm, I'm sorry. How will you be killing Nik Elijah?" she took a breath before continuing to speak "like you said, he has grown to be extremely paranoid how will you get close to him without ending up daggered aswell?" she asked. Elijah shrugged, "It wouldn't be that difficult once I have the doppelganger in my possession", he stated, watching Helena's reaction.

Helena's expression went slack as she took in what he just told her "What, no, absolutely not!" she yelled, shooting up from her seat "you are not using one of my descendants, one of the members of my family, as bait for your stupid revenge against your brother!" she argued, Elijah glared back at her, raising his voice but not yelling "and what of our family! What of Rebekah and Kol? Of Finn?" Elijah tried to reason, but Helena just shook her head, "I'm sorry, Elijah, I really am, but I can't", she muttered, looking away from him, which was a mistake because she missed the expression on his face. The last thing she heard was Elijah's final words to her before everything went dark.

Elijah caught Helena's limp body before it hit the ground. He carefully lifted her, placing one hand on her back while he brought his other hand under her knees, pulling her closer to his chest "I'm sorry, Helena, but I cannot let him get you too," he muttered mostly to himself as he carried her out the door, making sure to shut the door behind him. He briskly walked down the steps and headed in the direction he had parked his car.

Once he reached it, he unlocked it and opened the passenger's side door and placed Helena in the seat. He adjusted her so she would be somewhat comfortable when she awoke, before strapping her to her seat. Pulling away, he noticed a few loose strands of hair covering her face. He slowly brushed them aside with a sigh. With one last glance, he closed her door before he headed towards the driver's seat. From what his contact told him, those who were looking to make a deal with him for the doppelganger are waiting for him somewhere near Reidsville, North Carolina, which was going to be a long drive. With one final sigh, Elijah started the car and drove towards their destination.
