Summary
Every safety net has holes. What do you do about those who through intention or ill fortune, slip through every one? The Affini ship Antipolyon is one such solution. A home to BXWC Affini and their florets, traveling through space with eyes, ears, and vine tendrils open to find such slippery cases and give each one the personal care they need.
Letters is a hermitlike human, avoiding the company of all but the six cats they look out for on the abandoned military outpost they've made into their home. One can only avoid the attention from the Affini for so long through, no matter how hard they might try to avoid attention. The Antipolyon's goal is to help every human live happily and healthily, whatever that looks like, and regardless of any reluctance on the human's part.
This story is a Human Domestication Guide setting story about Affini who seek to save humans whether they like it or not, and a human who acts like they're the only human who shouldn't be saved. It explores some of the moral implications of the Affini's actions, the allure of a comfortable and familiar sadness over a scary and vulnerable happiness, and generally my own kind of confusing, strange thoughts and feelings about the setting.
