Catalyst

Summary:

A simple act of kindness can make all the difference. When Deb Dobkins sees a young lawyer crumbling under the pressure of office politics, she can’t just stand by. What begins as a small gesture—offering support, sharing advice, and inviting her on a girls’ weekend—blossoms into an unlikely friendship that could transform both their lives. No soul swapping, no early goodbyes—just real people, real choices, and the slow, messy, beautiful work of learning to be truly seen.

Notes:

This story reimagines Drop Dead Diva, retaining its heart and humor while omitting the supernatural twists. Deb isn’t a lawyer—she’s a down-to-earth catalyst whose empathy and confidence inspire Jane’s growth.

Expect plenty of heartfelt moments, gentle humor, and everyday scenes that show how small acts of courage can create lasting change. Thanks for reading, and enjoy this fresh take on characters we know and love.

What do you think Jane is feeling the moment Deb steps in? Relief, confusion, curiosity? Why?

How would you react if you were in Deb’s shoes—seeing someone treated unfairly at work?

Do you like that the story starts grounded in the real world rather than with a supernatural twist?

How does Deb’s invitation to the girls’ weekend make you feel about the start of their friendship? Realistic? Heartwarming?

The windows stay shut, but “something else… had opened.” What do you think this symbolizes for Jane and Deb?

Did any small gestures or details—like Deb noticing the bag or brushing hair—stand out to you as meaningful?
