Chapter Text
He still remembers the day he woke up from the pod. The world was dimmer than he remembered, well that was expected after years in that digital plain. The vibrant reds and blues replaced now with dull browns and greys of the world around him.
He's tried to rejoin society, got a job walking distance from his house at a local fast-food chain. He hated to admit it but his shift at Spudsy's gave him a small idea about how to do this whole job thing.
But he was trying to push those thoughts from his mind...he didn't like focusing on the circus. There were to many memories, to many things to forget from there.
He entered the doors of the restaurant hating his shift before it even started. He sighs but grabs a apron and gets ready to work.
"Jaxen hop on register we have a line." His manager calls out. She is a short woman with white hair with small pink streaks she swears are natural. She was annoying but whatcha gonna do. "On in."
He gets on register looking at the line. God it's nine AM why do people want BigMac's at nine in the goddamn morning. He goes about his day taking orders hating every bit of it, because A: people suck and B: this was a minimum wage job. "What do you want?" He asked to one customer, a woman with brown hair and square glasses to large for her face.
"I um...sorry could I just get a cookie, you guys still do those two pack cookies right?" She ask as if she's unsure of herself.
Jax sighs, "If its on the menu we have it. Name for the order? The girl hesitates for a moment as if unsure about what to say before bringing herself to say.
"Poppy." She says as if it's wrong.
Jax looks at her his gaze starting to soften, this girl was clearly having some kind of mental breakdown she looked frightened and overwhelmed. Sure Jax was a dick but not that much of one. "You ok shortstack?"
"I uh...yeah sorry long week, er um month I guess." She stumbles out.
"Yeah me to kid...me to." Jax says and puts in the order. "Be right out Poppy." He says before moving onto the next customer.
He keeps moving though customers as the minutes fly by but something isn't right...theres something going on with that girl. She just seems... important.
It's stupid Jax knows it is, hunches and assumptions lead no where and are just conspiratorial at best...and yet.
"Ginger, I'm going on break." He mumbles more to himself than to his manager. Taking off his apron and walking out. He finds the girl still sitting at a table just by herself. She just kinda looks at the table like she feels that somethings not right too.
Jax grabs a chair and spins it around sitting in it backwards. "Ok what's up with you, your all weird and in my head." He says playing nonchalant. It feels odd but he just has this feeling, more of a delusion than anything. Maybe he was really starting to lose it.
"I don't know what you mean?" She says back not really looking at him. "Nuh uh uh, your familiar why do I know you?" He pushes back a light teasing almost cruel air to him voice.
"I really don't know what yo-" She cut off by a higher voice from the kitchen yelling. "Jax you can't just go to break without telling anyone!" She huffs more frantic than mad. She was very new to the job and got worked up easy. "I did tell you, get your ears checked."
"Just be back in fifteen Jaxy boy." She huffs before walking out. Jax turns back to see the girls just looking at him wide eyed. "Your Jax?" She says looking like she might cry. "Uh yeah Jaxen yeah."
"...I'm Pomni..."
"Oh."
