Work Text:
This was the first and last time he worked on Christmas Eve.
That was Miles final thought before he unlocked the door, tumbled in- and stopped in awe.
The apartment wasn‘t brightly lit, nor was it lacking of Christmas decorations anymore. A Christmas tree, beautifully decorated and wrapped in a bunch of fairy lights caused a magical hew to enlighten the room. Colorful presents were placed beneath it and the distinguished smell of freshly baked cookies caused a wave of content to wash over him.
“Hey there, you big dumb Idiot.”
Reluctantly, he pulled his eyes away from the tree to the direction where the voice came from. Or rather who it came from.
Celina.
“Excuse me?”
“Well, with your Texan ass calling me Darlin’ all the time, I think it’s only fair that I give you a nickname as well.”, she argued, walking out of her room, a bright grin on her face- that rather quickly faltered as she registered Miles’ expression.
“That bad, huh?”
Miles scoffed bitterly.
“I feel like I’ve been run over. Physically and mentally.”, he admitted without much hesitation. Celina, now leaning against the kitchen counter offered him an understanding smile before spreading out her arms.
“Do you need a hug?”
“No, I-”, Miles waved her off. After all, he was strong. Though deep down, he could really use that damn hug right now. And Celina seemed to feel it as she raised an eyebrow, eyeing Miles with a knowing look.
And so he faltered, merely whispering ‘Yes’, before Celina had already wrapped her arms around his back and hugged him tightly.
His chest felt warm as he, too, wrapped his arms around Celina and held her close. Allowing himself to take a deep breath.
His feelings didn’t magically disappear. But in this moment, wrapped in his best friend’s arms, he no longer felt like he was drowning.
