Work Text:

Janelle can’t sleep.

Perhaps it’s just because. Perhaps tomorrow has a lot in store for her regarding work and potential missions. Maybe she has drank too much wine before going to bed. Or perhaps it’s a combination of both.

But one thing is for certain. Her boyfriend lying next to him looks absolutely stunning.

Lying on her right side, Janelle admires the man next to her. Robert is lying on his back, arms loosely splayed on either side, his breathing shallow, just looking so peaceful.

Janelle isn’t able to resist. She reaches her hand out, gently cupping the man’s cheek. Robert feels rather pleasantly warm like he should. Originally, she intended to retreat her hand after a few seconds but forgets about that after a few seconds.

“Look at you, all handsome.” Janelle mumbles to herself, looking at her boyfriend with sheer love and adoration. It’s why she loves the night when they’re laying in bed like this, all warm and exhausted, save and sound.

Suddenly, Robert wakes up, jumping out of his skin as his eyes flutter open. Janelle instantly retreats her hand, not having expected her boyfriend to awaken so soon, nor did she want to.

And he needs the rest…

“Coop…?” Robert asks, confused and slightly panicked, his voice weak and groggy from having just awoken from his sleep. “Is something wrong?”

He starts to feel a little panicked. Knowing his girlfriend and how cautious she can be, she would never wake him up for nothing.

“Oh, no. There’s nothing, love.” Janelle reassures him, quickly crawling to him to be right next to him now that she has an excuse to do so. Wrapping her arms a little tightly around Robert’s frame, the assassin rests her chin on his boyfriend’s head, all snuggled up against him as if someone is going to take him away from her. No, never. “I just couldn’t resist looking at you.”

Feeling his slight panic fade away, Robert can’t help but chuckle, finding his girlfriend’s admiration rather intriguing. He had no one who was this interested in him, who practically melted against him, no one but her.

“I’m glad.” Robert whispers, gently stroking Janelle’s short black hair when she’s curled up against him, planting a kiss on her cheek.

“Sorry, I woke you up.” Janelle says, a hint of guilt present in her voice, burying her face in the other man’s hair. Silently watching people is kind of her thing, especially during missions, only to fail when it comes to her boyfriend during the most quiet time of day. He knows her too well.

“It’s okay.” Robert reassures her, his other hand running circles on his girlfriend’s back. “You just had certain impulses you couldn’t resist.”

Janelle chuckles at his wording, placing a playful kiss on his forehead in response. Usually, most of her impulses consist of ending the lives of criminals and other scum lurking on the earth, not touching her dispatcher.

“You and your wording...” She mumbles, her arms around Robert’s waist tightening a little, one of her hands brushing through his light brown hair.

If anything, Robert is the cause of those impulses, wether it’d be murder or affection.
