Work Text:
Serpine walked to his private quarters. Today had been, odd for him. He had gone through his normal routine sure. Eat, train, report, etc. But the entire time he had felt, off. Like there was something stuck in his throat and something was rapping around his lungs. But he had just shrugged it off and pretended it didn't exist. Yet it didn't go away. It got worse.
By the time he had reached his quarters the feeling of something in his throat had gotten worse. Like someone was strangling him from the inside out. He started to cough profusely. Each time the coughing getting more and more rough. Until something fell out of his mouth.
A flower petal.
What in the world...?
It looked like a black rose petal, though the veins in it where red. It almost looked, elegant. But still, why was he coughing up petals!?
Was it a curse? Some sort of poison or spell by an enemy? But he had never heard of something like this before.
Clutching his chest and stumbling over to the bookshelf, Serpine started to look for a book.
It has to be a curse. Right? Or some sort of sickness?
After looking through books and coghing more flower petals, he finally found something. The book was an old one, but had a diverse amount of knowledge in it. Hopefully whatever he had was in here.
Flowers, Petals, Coughing... AHA!
Serpine's finger landed on a page with the title of, 'Hanahaki'. Weird word. Anyway, time to find out what the heck this is.
(Inside the book)
The Hanahaki disease is caused when some falls in deep love with someone else, but that other person doesn't return the feelings. The love for the other person is so intense and strong, that you'll start to be physically affected by it. Flowers will start to sprout in lungs and around the heart (though it can be in other places as well), and vines will also start to develop and grow around the same places. The more inlove you are, the more flower petals you'll start to cough up. And can even start to cough full flowers. The colour of the flower represents the other person and their personality.
There are three ways to stop this disease.
1. Confess you're love to the other person, and if they except it, it will go away
2. Surgery. This is highly risky and has a low chance of working, but still an option
3. Not confessing or doing anything about it, and dying a very painful death
...wait, LOVE!? Oh no. No no no. How could he be in love? Or more so, who could he be in love with? It couldn't be...
