"Sorry," Bucky repeated.
Suddenly, John tossed his knife at the old, analog clock on the wall. The remainder of the blade sank into the center like butter, a perfect bullseye.
"Okay," John squared his shoulders. "I'm going to hit you now."
"Huh–"
John stepped forward. He punched Bucky straight in the gut. Bucky wheezed, losing the air in his lungs and the saliva in his mouth. All of his organs rearranged upward, then dropped back into place like a stone hitting a lake. The ripples had him reeling, and he took an unsteady step back. John nodded at him once. Cool. Calm. Like they were both expecting it.
"We square?" Bucky managed to cough out.
"Yeah," John exited the ring. "We're square."
