Work Text:
“—Haitham? Alhaitham?” Kaveh’s tone indicates that he’s been trying to get the other man’s attention for some time and had probably called his name more than twice.
Alhaitham sighs, slides a bookmark into his current page, and reluctantly raises his eyes. “Yes? What is so important that you needed to interrupt me at work?”
Kaveh sputters for a second, indignant, “I might feel bad about ‘interrupting’ you if you were actually working.”
Mehrak beeps in agreement and Alhaitham sighs again before closing his book and setting it aside. “What is it, Kaveh?” the day had been fairly boring so far, with the exception of his reading, and Kaveh is a welcome distraction, but what fun would it be to actually tell the other man that?
“I—Well,” Kaveh pauses, hesitates for a second, “I’ve got a room at some fancy hotel in Fontaine for the weekend. And since our anniversary is coming up, I thought it would be nice to go together.”
Alhaitham hums, running a finger absently along the edge of his book. “Alright.” he nods.
“Alright? So you’ll come?” he visibly perks up at that.
“Yes. Just one question… How are you paying for this?”
“You—” Kaveh deflates slightly and Mehrak gives a little boop from beside him. “I’m working on a design for some clients in Fontaine. They’re paying for the hotel. But this is just an initial visit and I’ll be free for most of the time, and yes, they do know that I’m bringing you with me. In fact, they suggested I bring someone along.”
Satisfied that he wasn’t somehow going to be footing the bill for the trip, Alhaitham, picks his novel back up and is about to open it again when Mehrak chirps softly. He glances at the suitcase for a moment and sets the book down, standing, and circling his desk. “Thank you.” Alhaitham cups Kaveh’s jaw and leans in to press a soft kiss to the other man’s lips. “I look forward to it.”
Kaveh stands, frozen, in the doorway to the room, blocking the entrance.
“Everything okay?” Alhaitham asks, his tone suggesting that he’s considering moving Kaveh out of the way himself if the situation continues for much longer.
“No. It’s…” Kaveh’s shoulders slump as he steps into the room, revealing two twin beds—one at each end of the large space.
Alhaitham steps in after him, taking in the situation. “I see.” he walks over to the bed that’s furthest from the door, sets down his suitcase, sits on the bed, and pulls out his book.
“Alhaitham! What are you doing? We need to talk to the staff and get this fixed.” this room is definitely not suitable for an anniversary trip.
“I’m reading. What are you waiting for? You don’t need me to come with you to talk to someone.”
“…I don’t know why I’m surprised. Why are you always like this? Absolutely no help at all…” Kaveh’s voice fades as he disappears down the hallway, leaving Alhaitham alone with Mehrak and his book.
Mehrak beeps softly.
“He can be a bit dramatic.”
