Summary
After weeks of silence born from a fight neither of them is willing to end, Kaveh and Alhaitham are forced onto a joint Akademiya mission into the desert.
What begins as strained cooperation quickly spirals into disaster when a collapse separates them from their team, and leaves them alone against a ruin construct that nearly kills them both.
When Alhaitham loses consciousness, Kaveh is left with a choice: stay and wait for help that may never come, or drag a dying man across miles of burning desert with wounds of his own.
He chooses.

Like Haitham would even care, Kaveh almost says, before remembering that the whole point is making everyone think Al-Haitham would, in fact, care.
“Oh, he’ll show up, all right,” he says instead. “He’s going to show up so hard, you don’t even know. Because he cares. So much. About me.”
His abductors trade looks with each other.
“Why do you think he’s into him?” the first man whispers, perfectly audible.
The other shrugs. “Maybe the ex-Acting Grand Sage likes blondes?”
Or: After the truth of his living situation finally gets out to the rest of Sumeru, Kaveh knows he has only one way to protect his reputation: convince everyone that he and Al-Haitham are married.
Too bad he never realized the risk of being the former Acting Grand Sage’s wife.

Summary
Sweat beaded on his forehead, as Jamil’s head conjured up countless emotions regarding Kalim.
He knows it could always be worse. He knows he could have been sworn to serve a jaded, cynical spoiled brat who treated Jamil like the servant he is. Kalim could have been anyone, any other ridiculously privileged heir with too much time and money on their hands, someone who knew how to make Jamil’s life truly miserable.
But instead, he was given Kalim. Someone so kind, so full of pure, unadulterated love, that sometimes Jamil doesn’t feel worthy to gaze upon him with eyes such as his. Eyes that have held such misplaced hatred for someone so wholly good, in the very essence of the word.
In that sense, Kalim feels like a gift.
Like a treasure, a hoard of gold given heart and mind and a smile to make the sun feel dim.
Or: Through trial and tribulation, Jamil Viper finally comes to terms with the fact that he, despite everything, loves Kalim Al-Asim.
